Movie Thread

Saw John Wick 2 and Lego Batman yesterday. Liked the first John Wick better and Lego Batman is a must see for any batman fan. It truly is a treat to watch them roast and poke fun of the entire batman dynasty in such a comical way. Movie had me giggling throughout its runtime.

Has anyone seen Logan on an early screening? It's getting great reviews so far. Getting pretty excited about this.

The X-Men movies, outside of Deadpool, have been pretty disappointing so far. I'm anxious to see how this one looks.

They have been really hit and miss. X2 and Days of Future Past are probably my favorites of the main X-Men movies. With the FF4 disasters you really just never know with Fox and their comic book movies.

X3 was purely fun. I have a soft spot for it because Beast was my favorite character from the glory 90's cartoon. Seeing him in the movie was a dream come true.

DOFP was amazing. Definitely Singer's best work. I was so hyped for Apocalypse because he and Mr. Sinister were my favorite villains from the cartoon as well. It ended up being a dud. Now they want to do Phoenix AGAIN. I'm sick of the franchise now. Batman has been rebooted several times now, why the hell can't FOX push Singer out and have some fresh blood? I'm also sick of the prejudice discrimination theme. We've seen it too many times. I want to see purely X-Men v. Bad Guy without exploiting the humans are racist against Mutants stuff.

That's a core X-Men theme though so I can understand that. The comics came out at a time when civil issues and discrimination were big issues and X-Men used that.

Absolutely it is and I'm not against it. But the X-Men universe has tons of capable villains. It doesn't need to be Magneto teetering on the border of good and evil and what he does changes the climax of the movie like X1, X3, FC, DOFP, and APOC.

All I'm saying is, you have Mr. Sinister whom transcends the Human v. Mutant debate. He is really f'd up and he's a villain the story can be simply X-Men v. Villain. He's a Mad Scientist. Omega Red is another one that I want to see. The universe has tons of potential, just sad it gets wasted.

Not to mention how much they pussified Cyclops.

In similar spirit, the reason Nolan's TDK movies were so great is because it brought out villains besides Joker and made them have substance. Scarecrow, Ra's Al Gul, Bane (still lol at Limbaugh for saying it was about Romney and Bain capital).

I'd like to see them use Mad Hatter, a non-goofy Riddler, and Clock King one day.

I agree 100% about Cyclops. And that is Magneto's character though. He is always going back and forth in his history. Generally he helps the X-Men when there is a larger threat.

Moreover, they are themes that are still pretty relevant now.

But are you not tired of it? X2 was arguably the best because it was less about Xavier and Magneto going back and forth and was like you said the bigger threat and strong villain in Stryker.

Recent best picture winners The Artist, Argo and Birdman all have that theme of Hollywood being great and noble.

I certainly agree regarding the first two, but I don't think you actually saw Birdman if that's your gloss of it.

I'm a longtime X-Men fan so not not really. It just mirrors what happens in the comics from time to time.

La La Land is pretty good. You know it's pretty good when there's a backlash. I don't think it's a great movie destined for any all-time lists, but it's well done. Chazelle has put together two pretty good movies in a row. I personally preferred Whiplash, but La La Land is about as splashy as splashy can get.

I do want to see The Founder.

I do recommend The Founder, which is also not "destined for any all-time lists," but nonetheless well-done. I may have to wait on Redbox for La La Land, sadly—I just don't get to the cinema nearly as much as I did in Chicago.

If it's McKellan and Stewart hell yah.

They have better chemistry than McAvoy and Fass probably because they're homeboys in real life.

But I just wanna mix it up a bit. I've always loved Xmen more than Avengers. I just wish FOX gave them better treatment. Apocalypse was a huge bust after DOFP was amazing.

And still no Gambit! That's probably the biggest crime.

Oh oh and Colossus has been wasted under Singer. Deadpool was the first time we got the badass Colossus not the quiet do boy in the first 3.
