Movie Thread

I'd one up you and say Tron Legacy is the best blu-ray to show off hi def video and hi def audio. Also, Dredd probably has the best audio track on any blu ray I've watched.

If you want to see what a beautiful restoration looks like, purchase Paths of Glory from Criterion.

Direct connection between "Rush" and "Tron - Legacy": Olivia Wilde.

Has anybody seen RoboCop yet? It looks so horrible, but I loved the originals too much not to at least give it a sniff.

Saw it the other night. My wife and I are Joel Kinnaman fans (from "The Killing" and "Snabba Cash"). It's not horrible, but it's kind of a mess. Standard action flick except that it gets really violent. It has less heart (and no Kurtwood Smith as awesome villain), but more political comment than the original. More than anything else, I think it's a commentary on the NSA spying issue.

One of the sound stages used for the six upcoming Star Wars movies is empty and being held for Indiana Jones five. I don't want a fifth Indy but four was so bad the franchise needs to be redeemed.

3 Days to Kill is garbage. Not too much action at all. Trailer is very misleading.

I didn't dislike it as much as you, but it's not very good. I thought it was an interesting concept that came up short in its delivery. The comedic aspect of the plot wasn't executed very well at all. On the plus side, I don't know much about Amber Heard, but I've seen her in a couple of movies and all I can say is "Zowie!"

I've only seen a few of the best actor films, but hwo do you think the Academy goes? Do they go with the surprise performance ala Dujardin or do they get someone who's paid their dues and lost to other greats like Bridges or Firth. JMO Leo should get it. I can't think of someone who's turned in as many great performances as him without a win. He's been nominated for best actor twice before (should have won for the Aviator, not that Foxx sucked in Ray, Leo was just amazing in the Aviator) IIRC Leo is the only repeat Best Actor Nom. Bale recently won best supporting Actor (which he totally deserved) Leo's counterpart in Golden Globe winner was McConaughey, who I'm sure was great in Dallas Buyers club, and it involves an illness, so that's academy award gold.

I'd love it if McConaughey gets it. He's been on a super roll lately with the performances he's done especially on True Detective (which he better when an emmy for).

Leo is overdue IMO, but MM literally changes his appearance for the role, whereas Leo has looked the same for the last 20 years.

Also, they might give it to Odewjanegou for 12 years a slave.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dern nets the Best Actor award. He was truly great in Nebraska. I didn't see Wolf of Wall Street, but DeCaprio is always solid.

As I understand it they're all deserving. No weak members of the class, no DDL types who dominated the screen either.

Changing your appearance is only part of it. If dramatic appearance changes were so important you'd have seen Oscars for Bale in the Machinist (wasn't even nominated) or for his immediate turn around to being buff Bruce Wayne. Not to mention when 50 cent dropped like 50 pounds and looked like he had Aids for some film. Or Jared Leto, or Vincent D'Onofrio. Could go on.

Leo's role in Wolf was fantastic. His growth as a character his change, all great.

A Big RIP for Harold Ramis. Comedy genius.

Harold Ramis will rank among the greatest comedy writers to ever grace the planet. They are hard to find, but his work with the National Lampoon Radio Hour and the first season-and-a-half of SCTV are absolutely classic. He just built from there. Some truly great work.

Saw "Wolf of Wall Street" last night and while I thought the movie was overly long, DiCaprio is truly fantastic. It will be interesting to see who nets the Best Actor Oscar. I saw "Nebraska," and Dern is so understated while DiCaprio is larger than life. Two completely different performances. Dern may win as the sentimental favorite among some of the voters, but both performances are absolutely fantastic.
