My birthday in Braves history

50PoundHead

Hessmania Forever
Today is my birthday (too many if you ask me, but it beats the alternative) and August 1 brings to mind two events in Braves' history; one good and one bad. First, on August 1, 1972, San Diego Padre first baseman Nate Colbert hit 5 HRs and drove in 12 runs in a doubleheader. But six years later, the combination of Larry McWilliams, Dave Campbell, and Gene Garber broke Pete Rose's 44-game hitting streak. Of all the great birthday presents I've received over the years, having the boorish cad Rose's egos bruised on my birthday ranks among the best.
