The funny thing is that the Rockets third/fourth best players (Beverly/D-mo) aren't even playing right now.

The idea that hte Rockets have a horrible supporting staff is a joke and shows that people haven't watched them play.

Now to me, this doesn't take anything away from how amazing Harden. But basketball is the ultimate team sport and no team (sans the first version of Lebrons Cavs) wins because of just one player.

How many games would the following win: (in your expert opinion)

Prigioni
Brewer
Ariza
Jones
HOward

Smith
Capela
Terry

Not according to this NBA report. Also said refs missed a bunch by the Wiz leading to 5 pts that should never have happened.

Im def. not blaming officials, they do a good job, but no game is going to be refereed perfectly.

I, not really understanding that report, but to me Korver clearly raked his arm. Korver clearly walked to me at the end of game 4, but the report claims he didn't because he didn't gain an advantage?

Gortat clearly was moving on the screen. That is something that is never called and certainly not going to be called in the last second of the game. Just like if Horford would have pushed off (he didn't) they wouldn't have called it. For another example check out Noah on Lebrons game winner in game 5.

Add in Beverly/D-Mo and I think they could win 40-45 games in the West. Have you seen D-Mo play at all?

DMO isn't playing in the playoffs, right? Neither is Beverly.

Either way, neither one of them are very good:

Win Shares/48:

DMo- .110
Beverley -0.96

Harden .265

Without Harden, there is zero chance the Rockets would win 40 games.

So I guess the answer is no that you haven't seen him play. When he is awesome next season don't come back and say you never said he wasn't any good.

I am talking about 2015; not what is potential for the future is. Is that difficult to grasp? If Harden had a bunch of talented 20 year old kids as teammates, would he have a good supporting cast in 2015? Does that mean in 2018, the supporting cast is still trash or would you expect improvement?

Yes, I've seen DMO play. The Rockets are an interesting case study in advanced statistic style basketball.

D-Mo was awesome this year despite what your win shares stat say. Again, this is not baseball. Statistical analysis will never be as precise when the team factor is so important.

Harden was a -20 last night and his team won by double digits. Yes, just one game but he doens't play with scrubs.

It was only a year ago that you and Brule were talking about Howard like he was a top 10 player. Now when that hurts your argument he is just an ok player. What gives is HOward 1 year later not a top 10 player anymore?

Then why do the best players have the best stats and the worst players have the worst?

Howard was great. I thought the year with the Lakers was just an aberration, but he's clearly not the same player he was prior to the back injuries.

11 .235
12 .179 (with Magic)
13 .134 (with Lakers)
14 .161 (with Rockets)
15 .140

His numbers since he left Orlando have dropped dramatically.

Well Howards been an absolute monster in this series sans the 1 blowout game. Maybe he is still a really good player and the overall talent on the Rockets isn't as bad as you think. Not trying to act like they are a top seed without Harden but the idea they are a 20-30 win team is a bit much sir.

Not really, Howards offense has slowed the team down. His sw/48 is similar to his regular season numbers at .149. Just because they are doing the hack a howard doesn't mean he's been good as he's average 6/15 on free throws per 100 possessions.

FWIW, there isn't a single stat that's very good at analyzing a player. You have to use all of them together and couple that with context to draw any sort of conclusion.

With that said, simply watching a player isn't a very good measurement either because of confirmation bias. If you like someone as a fan then you tend to look for things that support your opinion and ignore the things that don't.

But I don't root for the rockets or particularly like or dislike any player (aside from Howard who I don't care for much). I think any reasonable basketball fan could watch Beverly and D-Mo and realize the yare good players (moreso D-Mo).

I have said in this thread in the past that I really like D Mo and certain other players. But you are naming all these players that are good and not citing how a lot of them missed significant portions of the season. At what point does Harden start getting credit for pulling this team together? (Not from the media, they clearly see that. It's you guys) The players that did succeed absolutely benefitted from the gravity that Harden pulls which allows them to take uncontested three's.
