NBA Thread

What should OKC have done then if what they did was so awful. Instead of just barking about how bad it was I haven't heard any alternatives that were better.

They said they didn't need to do the deal, they wouldn't of had to of paid taxes anyway with the way to cap went up and everyone in the league knew that. Or us the amnesty on Perk.....they all pretty much laughed at Presti for panicking over nothing and the return he got.

Nobody knew the cap was going to rise that much so using that point is just using hindsight which always looks great as opposed to the information readily available at the time the trade was made.

People won't be laughing at the return when Adams continues to the develop. Guys who know basketball like Van Gundy / Kerr / Barkely all believe that Adams is going to be a really good player in the league and that was just after his rookie season.

The jury is still out on Lamb but he had a very positive season until Brooks just did what he does and relegate a struggling young guy in favor of a aging vet (damn Brooks). McGary should end up being a solid 6/7th guy off the bench. Slightly better version of Collison.

So again, nobody is ever going to win a trade when you are the one trading a superstar but getting a guy who should at end up being at worst a top 10 center, and two rotational guys is a solid return. This team does not need superstars, they need to surround their existing superstars with solid players. There is only one basketball and having only one basketball wasn't enough for KD/RW/Harden.

They also laughed at Adams being able to play more than 20 MPG because he can't stay on the court...Also said Lamb isn't good.....but hey....keep on going......

Someone who I believe is an excellent talent evaluator (Isaiah Thomas) only said glowing statements about Lamb in the summer league. Lamb has plenty of skills but his basketball IQ is awful as is his motor. Those are his issues.

Adams will have to learn how to foul less but those problems are not unique to rookies. Not sure why you can't understand that.

This isn't me......this is your boy Lowe and 2 excellent basketball minds. 1 probably being one of the smartest in the world.

I respect Lowe's opinion for sure.

Who are you referring to at the smartest in the world?

Most of these writers now are guys who in it for analytics and don't have much experience with actual playing. Analytics works well with guys who have sizable samples but with young players (similar to baseball) its difficult to rely on analytics to form a final opinion.

Haralabos

So has he ever played even D1 basketball?

LOL does that matter? He built his own NBA database and algorithm, watches more NBA than probably anyone, is huge into analytics, was offered 2 front office positions and turned both down (1 in Memphis before Hollinger accepted, after he declined)

Did YOUR boy Zach Lowe play D1?

I'm not diminishing the importance of anlaytics with players that have large samples to evaluate but with young players its difficult to do that. Just like in baseball you can't really use stats as the gospel for minor leaguers.

All I am saying is that by strictly watching the game they are not good at evaluating talent and you need that first person view with younger players more.

Since none of what you said had anything to do with what you said previously......what was the point of "Did he even play D1" ?

The fact that he doesn't know how to evaluate talent based on watching a game as well as someone like Isaiah that have been playing the game since he was a baby.

How many times has Isaiah been fired? Is he currently working in a front office? Cause.....Haralabos has been offered 2 front office jobs, so CLEARLY NBA teams value whatever knowledge he has.

And he has tremendous value to analyze players with a substantial sample size. The results from that anlaysis however is a little more volatile with players that haven't had enough time to show what they can do. Lamb basically had a couple of good months last year and a couple of bad months. It was his first year at the NBA level. To extrapolate that performance to the rest of his career is silly.

It just cracks me up how almost every single Thunder player is a god, yet they've never won anything.

In a league where there's like a 25% chance because all the teams stink.

Injuries to Westbrook and Ibaka clearly had nothing to do with their playoff losses the last two years.

Way to understand context.

Even excluding the obvious Durant pick Presti has about as good of a draft record since he became the GM of the Thunder as anyone in the game plus he is widely given credit for the Spurs drafting Parker.

Go look at his drafting record. He knows basketball talent.

Damon Stoudamire....ok
Marcus Camby.....ok (Ray Allen was on the board. Marbury, Kobe, and others
Tracy McGrady....good

Channing Frye
David Lee
Dijon Thompson
Renaldo Balkman

Traded a bunch of picks for Eddy Curry. What am I missing?
