The Knicks could easily be a contender in a short amount of time.

Imagine drafting Okaefor and trading for or singing Dragic.

They would not be a contender even in that scenario unless of course you think that Hardaway/Galloway are projectable players. The Knicks have nothing exciting on their roster right now and an aging Melo with injury issues.

So you think FA PG/Matthews/Melo/Towns or Okafor/Gasol can contend?

It could but maybe 4-5 in the East. About it.

They aren't going to sign just 1 guy, they have like 3 players under contract and have 2 draft picks, can buy another + 30 whatever in cap space. Most likely they add 2-3 draft picks with 1 being elite + 4-5 free agents. It's going to be a whole new team, not saying they are going to be good or bad until I see who they sign BUT if they add Okafor + 2 draft picks + Wes + a PG + a PF then I'll be really happy.

Listen, if the Knicks get the #1 pick that would be huge because it would make it easier to sign guys but as the roster stands right now I just don't see FA's flocking to go to NY. Market is overplayed big time in the NBA for top level players. If might convince the mid tier guys to come but you don't want to spend big money on guys like that.

So many excuses for the "great" Melo. Hilarious. The Knicks are a complete and utter mess, and that includes Melo as well as their dickbag owner.

Whoaaaa... Tyson is great.

I wouldn't say that. Career PER of 16.5. He's fine if he can just be a defender and grab offensive rebounds and surrounded with 2-3 scorers, but as the 2nd best player on the Knicks..........ugh.

So you are going to ignore other advanced metrics that state Chandler is great?

Can we safely assume based on this that RW is the 3rd best player in the NBA now? Of course not.

PER is such a blech stat. It has its uses, but it severely underrates Chandler.

And he's not just a defender. He's a great defender and with the Knicks he was consistently the one of the best if not the best in the NBA.

And in his prime you would be more than fine with him as your second best player. Dallas won a title with him as their second best player.

I think the opposite, some of the other states overate him because of his efficiency (which is due to him not taking many shots and being a good offensive rebounder)

He's certainly a great defensive player. He's had a VORP of 24.8 over the course of 14 seasons and only 3 was he over a 3.0.

I don't know that I would say Chandler was the 2nd best player, but even so he was close with Kidd and Marion. Even so he wasn't even an option to have to score on that team.

The problem with the Knicks he they were so bad around the top 2 that they needed him to score.

Also, he's a 1 time all star. I would refrain from using greatness for a 1 time all star.
