GS didnt tank.

Curry was the 7th pick, and they got Klay at the end of the lottery.

Barnes was a lottery pick too but he's more of a role player.

Yup. You don't make moves to be competitve. You make moves to make you a title contender.

What team doesn't "acquire assets?"

No one had the expectation of drafting Curry and Thompson as being moves to "make you a title contender."

The New York Knicks are ramping up their pursuit of restricted free agent Patrick Beverley, per sources. The two sides are talking a lot.

That would be a nice move. Beverly is very underrated.

No but Beverely is a good player even though he's a dirty piece of ****.

sure but he isn't winning them anything. i thought their plan was to sign high-profile FAs to team with Melo and win. none of the big guys wanted to go there.

Stauskas and non-top 10 pick is more valuable to them than cap room to go from below average to just slightly below average. they have 0% chance to compete, so the trade was really dumb for them. plus, if the sixers are better in 16 or 17 (which definitely isn't impossible) we can swap picks with them.

That should have been the plan but gotta spend some money.

Just not assets that are worth all that much. If the Kings suck they lose Stauskas (not worth much) and a 2nd rounder (plus opportunity for Sixers to switch; but they are still worst team in the league). If they are good, they lose a mid to late first rounder and Stauskas.

They freed up over 15 million. If (big if) they are able to sign Matthews, he's worth more than Stauskas a mid 1st rounder.

I'd easily argue Stauskas and a pick are worth more than $15MM to a team in the Kings' situation, AKA one that, no matter what at this point, will not compete.

And the Sixers will be an improved team, while the Kings may still lose Boogie if not this year, next year.
