I'm not the biggest Melo fan, but.......

Whose their 2nd best player?

Amare who comes off the bench whose knees are cooked?

He doesnt really have a great supporting cast.

Some good role players which every championship team needs but dont have a 2nd or 3rd go-to scorer that can take over when Melo has an off-game and/or draws double teams.
 
Its not Melo's fault but I still will never believe that he can be THE guy on a team that wins a title. Right now there is only one of thoes guys int he NBA though.

LMA holds his opp to a 14.2 PER and Melo holds his to a 13.9....LMA has a net of +11 and Melo is at a 11.9....Portland is -3.8 when LMA is off the court, the Knicks are -14.9 when Melo is off of it.

Numbers seem to back me up here but stick to the old narrative if you must.
 
LMA is a great rebounder, im not sure about all-around defense though.

Melo is a good defender when he puts the effort towards it.

I never said LMA was a lockdown defender. I said he plays defense. Something that is foreign to Carmelo.

I just don't like when you use that stat for defense. Its part of a story and not the whole thing.

But, KD is that good!

Couldn't care less about these stats about defensive numbers. I've seen chucker play enough that I see little to no defensive effort from him.

I'm not saying it tells the whole story BUT if Melo was a lazy defender he wouldn't be holding his opponets to that low of a number. Basically the narrative that Melo is lazy, chucker and doesn't play D hasn't been true for 2 years now. Anyone that has watched Melo the last 2 years, especially this year on D can see that or you can be a blind hater. You put Melo with a league average PG and the Knicks are running away with the division....you put him with Dame and they're a top 5 team. The narrative that it's all on Melo is just lazy and irresponsible to use.

When I watch the Knicks I see Melo sometimes try on defense and sometimes not give any effort. That has ALWAYS been my beef with him. There isn't the consistent effort on a nightly basis.

Not sure if they would be running away with the division with a league avearge PG but they would be a hell of a lot better.

I'm starting to think the Nets are going to win that division and get the 3 seed. They are actually becoming fun to watch. Plumlee might end up being a player. Nothing special but a back up big who can run in the open floor.
 
There aren't many elite scorers that play D 100% of the time....you can't....listen to anyone that talks about the game, you'll always hear announcers talk about how the elite scorers can't play D that way 100% of the time because of the energy it takes and it would take away from their O. That's why guys like MJ, Kobe and Bron are in a different class.

Melo, a healthy Tyson, Amare the way he's playing on O....THJ/Shump/JR and a league average PG is easily the best team in the Atlantic. The Raptors have enough talent and the East is bad enough that they will probably hold off the Nets, unless Toronto decides to deal Lowry. KG/PP/Deron just aren't the same players they used to be

There is a difference between conserving energy and the things that melo does. We won't agree on that but thats cool. He's a great player but not as good as he could be.

Nets are more than those players right now. The depth is awesome. They rotate in 10-11 different players so everyone gets rest and is fresh. They have played very good ball since the New Year. It just took a while for Kidd to have a clue what he was doing and he still doesn't. Nets could win a round depending on the matchup.
 
Yes the Nets are more than that but it's the reg season.....Plumlee, Mirza, Livingston, Anderson aren't winning you playoff games.
