New Fangraphs Top 131 Prospects

except for he's the brother in law of markakis. there's a human aspect to building a team that so many don't get.

like when they had that kid skip his AA all star start a few years ago only to never be heard from again. at some point there's a human aspect that WAR can't measure.
for example, all of you suggesting the braves drop the brother in law of the team's arguable MVP midseason don't get it. at all.

Yeah that's not really relevant. We were frantically trying to pawn off bad Upton in 2013 despite his brother still being here. Not to mention, it's rather unlikely Neck is even on the team in 6 months anyways.

when i say arguable and you start nitpickig about freeman being MVP, it's clear you don't really have a point but just want to be difficult.

flaherty hasn't played in a month. what are you really going to give up for what will be better than what you have as the last bench spot? and if it impacts markasis at all it isnt worth it considering again just how little that last roster spot is used.

For one, Markakis isn't likely to keep up his current pace regardless of who is on the team. And secondly, Solarte is a vastly better player than Flaherty. A team trying to make a deep playoff run needs good players and Solarte is a good player that makes the entire bench better. The cost shouldn't be prohibitive. Likely no one in current top 10. Probably looking more at a Wisler type (or less).

Anyone know who Teheran's brother-in-law is? We should totally get him on the team to improve JT's stats.

Our 5 bench spots and 7 bullpen spots should be reserved exclusively for the brother in laws of the starting players. Can you imagine Freeman with his brother in law on the team? Good lord...

just to clarify if we acquire Solarte or someone similar I would not cut Flaherty...i would option Tucker to AAA...let him play every day and get sharp and call him up when rosters expand...its a win win win scenario...unless Tucker is best friends with Freddie or something

btw...i do not think these human element or team chemistry considerations are trivial

it is also worth emphasizing that Muk is a pro's pro...i dont see him pouting if his brother in law is released

Pass on optioning Tucker, who is useful and would make a much better bench option in the playoffs. Flaherty serves no purpose with Solarte or a similar player on the team. And it's doubtful he gets claimed if DFA'd.

I didn't say Tucker wouldn't be on my playoff roster...he would be

Isn't this season his last option? Don't think he has to be DFA'd.

Paul: Can you expand on that Brett Cumberland jump?
2:09
Eric A Longenhagen: Kiley saw him, thought the defense had improved, we each checked with people who had seen him and got general agreement. We both think he’s going to hit and if you fold a stronger likelihood that he’ll catch into the profile, it’s much, much stronger. We also have a lot of catchers with good bats toward the back of the 50 FV section and he fits with those guys.

Cumberland actually sticking at catcher would be really nice.

Well you said til rosters expand, so I took that to mean Sept 1, which would make him ineligible for the post season roster (barring injury).

Huh?

A guy doesn't have to be on the 25 man roster by August 31 to be eligible for the postseason roster...just in the organization.

is that the rule...i thought they could choose anyone from the 40 man roster...if necessary we can hire Tonya Harding to do what has to be done

I looked it up and I guess the rules changed.. It used to be that a player must be on the 25 man roster before Sept 1 in order to be post-season eligible (injuries not withstanding). Of course there were ways around that as teams often claimed injuries in order to get a certain player on the roster.
