New Manager Discussion

You guys are way over thinking the managers roll. As long as you are not the dumbest person in the sport then you should be fine. Seriously a team could write an AI bot to do 95% of the managers heavy lifting. Just avoid a loser who never did anything to deserve the roll except staying employed for 500 years.
On that note, I actually think Dave Roberts is a robot. The front office clearly makes every decision there.

Yeah, with Andy Reid’s players. Once that well dried up he was horrible.
Reid went like 4-12 with those players the year before.

Not that I disagree on the overall point though. Kelly was a bad coach. He had a new coach boost the first year or so. Roster he inherited was decent and his scheme hadn’t been figured out. It got figured out, and his personnel decisions were horrific. Had some really bad drafts too (think he took that firefighter in the 1st round, lol). He was very clearly way out of his depth in the NFL.

I think there's a little more to it than that, but I agree it's pretty clear that the front office and the dugout are on the same page, especially as it relates to load management.

In-game management has changed a lot over the years. The establishment of the DH has clearly made a big difference and allows for shorter benches because a team doesn't need as many pinch-hitters. Bullpen management has also changed but the three-hitter minimum has thrown a wrinkle in as well. I think roster construction has taken on a bigger role than in the past when teams had seven-player benches and a team could carry guys for particular situations.

I think a high payroll team should have 10 starting caliber position players that rotate around through the DH and field. That way you have at least 2 starting caliber position players to cover for injuries. The Braves have had zero starting caliber players and it has bitten them every year. Blame that on AA, but I think twit has a lot of blame to hold too. roll players don't want to sign with the Braves because they rot on the bench while twit lets the starters dictate when they get a day off.

as far as the pen goes, I have been bitching for 2 years that the Braves should ditch the rolls term and just use leverage based loads while having some sort of plan that is org wide that keeps pitchers healthier. It is clear what ever the Braves have been doing is the exact opposite of how to keep pitchers healthy. I don't know if it is a pitch count/inning count/stress pitch level/max velo approach.. but someone needs to develop a plan and set it in stone to try and keep pitchers at a little bit healthier.

You’re on a role.

Basically says no DeRosa, Ross, Gibbons, Weiss or Perez. Here's the important part:

"As for Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann, his candidacy has seemingly strengthened over the past couple weeks. Lehmann was Los Angeles’ advance video scout when Anthopoulos was with the Dodgers from 2016-17. The two have remained in contact over the years that have followed.

With the Dodgers set to begin their World Series battle against the Blue Jays on Friday, Lehmann’s candidacy could lead to the Braves waiting into November before announcing their next manager.

Other potential candidates could include Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty and Tigers bench coach George Lombard."

Honestly this is the best possible outcome, considering what's available. A bit surprised there isn't even a token mention of Melvin or Baldelli though.

This is about the best rumor we could have read at this point in the search process. It sounds like AA is circling my top choice from months ago, as well as other legit options.

Fingers crossed AA starts making good decisions again after being half braindead the last 20 months.

Maybe AA got lethargic due to knowing we were spinning tires with Snitker at the helm, and that he was going to have to reset the luxury tax.
