New options

Figured this deserved its own thread. With the trade for Garcia, the braves now have a veteran filled 5 man rotation (veteran minus Folty of course).

Before we have debated about packages for different aces or to maximise value. I think that trade opened up a plethora of new options for this team.

We still have Blair Wisler Folty Perez Newcomb who are all close to being big leave ready if not already.

If we package Inciarte and several of those pitchers, we could get back a hell of a player or players to really accelerate the rebuild without mortgaging the future.

I'm the other thread I mentioned a deal with us getting archer and longoria. That would make us very competitive this coming up year and I like that idea better than sale or sale and Frazier
 
Not to start a repeat of last winter-but I'd love a deal with the Cubs. Frame work deal of Teheran for Baez, and then we could trade Albies for a SP.

I've seen some twitter chatter that we could trade Teheran as part of a deal for an ace. I'd way rather trade Teheran to fill a different hole then trade for a TOR.
 
I can see what you're saying but I'm not sold on Baez or Soler for that matter(I know you didn't mention him,just figured he was brought up last year)

I love the idea but as I said on the other thread I don't think Inciarte works with Tampa because of Kiermaier. You would need to restructure the offer, and I think it's a little light. Perhaps add Newcomb and Riley.
 
Yeah as I was typing I thought so too. However I think tampa would love an Inciarte, he is a gold glover with plenty of control and who can hit. Outside of kiermaier they have no one really of value in the OF.....

So amend the offer to:

Braves get longoria and archer

Rays get Inciarte Folty Riley Allard Viz

Plenty of talent coming back our way. Plenty of talent going their way
 
Folty has now made 37 major league starts and thrown 228 major league innings. That makes him a veteran in anyone's book.
 
Would a trade with the Rays that looks something like this be enough?

Probably not, honestly. I think you'd have to add Allard, Newcombe or Albies somewhere.
 
Of those mentioned in the OP post the only players to really have much value, imo, would be Ender with Newcomb. The other rotation options like Wisler and Blair would just be filler. The risk you run there is all these new rotation options we have are likely just here for one season. So if you do trade say Newcomb and Wisler then what happens in 2018? Rush some of our younger guys? Get more 1 year deals?

I can see where you're coming from but if we added one of them, I'm not including Folty. UNLESS they were willing to take a package of Folty, Albies, and Sanchez.

Does that really move you forward at all? You won't get a better pitcher than Teheran for Albies, and I'd probably rather have Albies for the next 6 years than Baez for the next 5.

I would not be ok with that deal. At all.
 
2016

Folty in 123.1 IP = 1.4 WAR

Archer in 201.1 IP = 1.8 WAR

I think folty going into his 3rd year could match archer this season
 
Not me.

I think a big move and we're too big for our britches. I just don't think we're there.

I play my vet pitchers and hope that at least 1 of the 3 has a big time year. Then I look to start flipping them. Ideally you have guys like Newcombe, Blair, Wisler knocking hard on the door and you open up a spot with a trade to get some big time talent. We are still lacking impact bats and a starting pitcher on a one year deal could get you a piece.

Archer and Sale cost way too much IMO for where we are. Folty could take that step. Newcombe could take that step. Tehran is still young and could take that step.

Coppy screwed himself if he wants an ace by the Miller deal. Now everyone wants Miller deal plus. I'm not giving up the miller deal for Archer or Sale if I'm the Braves. If I'm the Nats I empty the farm and get Sale + McCutchen and win the WS. But the Braves are not there.
