Voting and Gun Ownership are both constitutional rights. Why is it OK to ask for voter id but not ok to ask for background checks?

I figured you wouldn't. Voting is mentioned 5 times in the constitution. Yet it's being pissed on more than the 2nd amendment.

Owning a gun isn't one of the core principles of a democracy. I'd say voting is.

In every other facet of life ; buying a car, buying a house, applying for a job, getting a loan, etc you have to prove who you are. Why shouldn't that apply to voting?
Those aren't constitutional rights.
We can have democracy without guns. Unless you're one of those that still thinks potus is going to round up everyone and place us in concentration camps.
For some reason conservatives think they are more patriotic because they speak out. There isn't a liberal I know that wouldn't die for this country including myself if the situation were real. These fake wars have nothing to do with national security or freedom.
Most if not all liberals I know in different regions of the country agree for owning a gun for self defense. Assault weapons are another story.

As long as a large segment of the country genuinely believes Barack Obama is going to kidnap us and place us all in concentration camps we can never make progress on guns.

You read to much into what conservatives say, waiting to attack them .
Guns are the reason we are a democracy. We didn't beat the British and win our freedom in a game of backgammon or go fish.
No one really thinks Obama is going to take our guns away but you just mentioned that you had problems with 'certain types of guns'. Guess you'd be in favor of gun control to an extent but wouldn't that be unconstitutional when you just posted about the constitution and voting?
So do you believe in the constitution or just pick the bits and pieces you agree with?
I'm a realist whom understands when the constitution was written, they were firing muskets and cannonballs. If they saw the types of ammunition and weapons we have today...

For the record, I don't think Obama is stupid, I think he is just wrong on most issues. We had a similar situation with Bush...he was portrayed as a bumbling fool by many of the same people trying to convince us that he knew about/had a hand in 9-11.

It is against federal law to sell a gun w/o an ID. Yes, you and I can sell a gun to each other but I was going with gun stores.

I don't want to wade through all of the comments, but you will find holes in this all over the place when you do. But graphics and memes generally are full of holes on the regular if you actually cared enough to post the meaningful data. I see the meme is a powerful tool in the arsenal of the liberal. Well, that and the Daily Show.
In every gun transaction I've ever done (Private and Retail) I have showed a ID, some contained a BOS, some didn't. Buying from a dealer will always contain a background check and ID and all personal info. If you buy a machine gun for the low low price of 10k or 20k you have to pass a HUGE battery of paperwork of taxes, permits, and search and seizure permittance.
Once again, this diagram isn't showing how criminals get guns. They steal, sell, and smuggle them. Those people who are already breaking the law, don't need to see IDs, don't worry about the background checks and dealer paperwork for a gun show, and certainly don't list anything online (where you still need to pass background checks and paperwork before getting the weapon.

Assault weapons have been banned since the 80's. Reagan got rid of them.
You mean the Federal Assault Weapons Ban that expired in 2004?
