Fulmer isn't realistic. From MLBTR: "Detroit gave no indication that it was willing to listen unless the Cubs were willing to include both Javier Baez and Ian Happ in trade talks."

That means the Tigers need young MLB players with multiple years of control to move Fulmer. The Braves don't even have such pieces without opening obvious gaping holes.

Verlander makes some sense if the Tigers eat some cash and accept a return based around non-elite prospects.
 
Verlander if some of the contract is ate, isnt bad. He's been really good minus this year and 2014 for awhile. But certainly worry about all the miles on his arm. Given his contract, wouldnt imagine he'd cost a ton.

Fulmer would cost a ton, he's a legit 1-2.

Verlander probably should have won the CY last year. But i'd certainly worry about the miles on his arm.

If he could be had for anyone not in our top 10, that would be fine.

It could be too late. They have a brutal start to their second half schedule. They could be 10 games back before the deadline.

Atlanta is the #10 television market. It's pretty much the same size as the Bay Area market at #6.

The biggest problem Atlanta has revenue wise on the TV side is that Turner signed them to a then below market long term deal and the market for television deals has exploded. Atlanta should sign a market rate deal when their current deal expires and that will make up a tremendous amount of ground on what used to be financial peers. The national following may well decrease, but the regional following will not. Atlanta has more reach than most teams across a larger region. They should have no trouble signing a nice deal.

I really can't say how much revenue the organization will derive from its real estate dealings or how much more or less the stadium will generate, but I suspect that will be an improvement.

Atlanta figures to run a comparatively higher payroll than it does now.

So I do reject the idea that Atlanta will never again sign a premium free agent again, but it isn't likely to be soon and the team that wins those things often regrets it anyway.

2020 - 22 million option that vests if he finishes top five in Cy Young Voting.

Looking at Braves payroll, they are currently paying

Jaime Garcia - 12m
Bartolo Colon - 12m
Jim Johnson - 4.5m
28.5m

Is Verlander good?

Last season he finished 2nd in the AL Cy Young race, striking out 250+. Currently having his worst season in a long while, even by FIP. However, his velocity is actually up, so isn't necessarily an arm issue. However, he is 34. Some indication that he's lost a bit of command.

Verlander contract ain't bad and Tigres could pick up some of the salary.

I actually agree. I think he would cost prospects. If I'm a contender with payroll flexibility, I think I would almost rather take my chances with him.

Braves would probably have to get them to take Garcia back and throw in 2017 money.
