Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

I could see it being decent (as in more than we gave up). Garcia is the type of pitcher that "can" be really good at times. He is probably the best that could be had of the range. If six teams are interested and the Twins have a good farm...it will be decent.

EVERYONE MAKE PREDICTIONS ON THE RETURN!!

Kershaw coming back to the Braves; three-way trade involves three assets to the Dodgers: ghost of Harmon Killibrew, Bert Blyleven in a 23-year-old body, and a cyborg baby genetically engineered to play like Barry Larkin in the field, Barry Bonds at the bat—though the latter won't reach rapid-onset adulthood until September 25th.

I wouldn't be surprised if we are surprised by the return. For Coppy to pull the trigger this early in the bidding war makes me think it could be decent.

@jonmorosi
#Twins have reached agreement to acquire Jaime Garcia from #Braves, source confirms @Ken_Rosenthal report. @MLB @MLBNetwork

.

Now we wait.

I don't think so. He's trying to get rid of him before the Dodgers crush him.

The Braves would be paying a 2x premium for the last 2 months of 2018 and the playoffs, but they KNOW they are contenders at that point. They are also more sure whichever pitcher they acquire will be healthy for those 2 months.

That's the whole reason the contender's premium exists.

Pitchers are the most "win now" assets in the game because they are so likely to get hurt. So when you acquire one, you better be able to won NOW with him. The bulk of their value is realized very early in the term of team control.

There is no guarantee that Chris Archer would be cheaper in the winter. Certainly no guarantee he'd be cheaper next deadline.

The Braves are more likely to be in the 2018 playoffs if Archer begins the season on the team.

Injuries can happen to any player any time.

If the Braves are serious about trying to win and are ready to cash in chips to do so, the best chance of that plan being successful is to field the best team from the beginning.

I'm not even getting into whether its a good idea or a bad idea, but if they are trying to win without a hedge, then they might as well go for it.

I'll make some probably pipe dream projections:

Garcia to MIN for Travis Blankenhorn and Lewis Thorpe (like Wander Javier here too)

Adams and Johnson to NYY for Miguel Andujar and Dermis Garcia (like Chance Adams but don't think they would move him for this package)

Julio and Viz to LAD for Walker Buehler, Willie Calhoun and Keibert Ruiz (highly doubt they move Buehler, but one can hope. Alex Verdugo of interest here too)

Cardinals have acquired OF Tyler O'Neill from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for LHP Marco Gonzales.

Wow the Cardinals got Tyler O'Neill for their #18 prospect?! We certainly could've come up with a similar package to get a power OF bat.

There has to be more going on than that unless the Mariners are drunk

Gonzalez was a pretty highly thought of prospect at one time. That light has dimmed quite a bit. O'Neil is hitting .244 with a 27% k-rate, but still probably a good get for the Cards.
