Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I don't see why everyone is so down on ozuna... here's his xwoba for last 4 years...

2018: .354
2019: .368
2020: .435
2021: .345

Here's soler...
2018: .346
2019: .389
2020: .349
2021: .354

Aren't the basically the same hitter?

Think its more of a commentary on who will be in better shape moving forward.

Ozuna has made more money over his career I believe so I think there is more motivation for Soler to get another big contract after this one.

Teams are not allowed to negotiate with free-agents once the lockout begins at midnight tonight.

The likelihood is that physicals and tests can't be completed and final contract wording pinned down before then at this point, so chances are every free-agent that wanted to sign before the lockout has already signed. Everyone else waited too long. That's why most deals had to be completed by yesterday.

Does that apply to players signing to their current teams? Unless Freddie has been sky diving since game 7 they should sort of already know what kind of shape he’s in.

smells like salary floor

From the guy who just signed a $40m a year contract with a team that has one of the highest payrolls in baseball and coming from a team that has the highest payroll and revenue in baseball…

That’s like Colonel Sanders complaining about the obesity rate in America.

He's not wrong though. The fact that Max's salary is higher than 2 teams entire payroll is just said. No way a team should have a 50 million payroll or less.

I understand…but it appears his position is the higher payroll the larger the opportunity it is for players to get bigger deals..only 16 teams in MLB has 9 figure payrolls.

Is max wants a more level field, go to a hard salary cap like the nfl

The players do not want a more level playing field or competitive landscape. They want more money, more money sooner, more control over what they chose to do with their career, & more long term protection to collect as they get worse personally. That is really it.

They get it from teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, etc. They want it from all the teams that start rebuilding and the bottom dwellers.

They want a salary floor. They want to speed up FA eligibility. They want to remove penalties for spending too much. That is all they want.

That doesn't tell the whole story. Ozuna is out of shape and 2 years older. Soler looks to be in great shape with a bit more youth on his side. Ozuna had some glaring red flags with his statcast data and peripherals with his limited playing time in 2021... enough to be concerning.

Increase the minimum salary, which will create a higher salary floor and increase subsequent arbitration salaries. This should get more money into younger player’s hands sooner.

Order the draft picks from best non-playoff team down to worst team in the league, which will incentivize winning 80 games rather than losing 100+ games. This should incentivize non competitive teams to sign those midrange older FAs rather than just tanking.

Completely do away with any connection between FA contracts and draft picks. This has only served to weigh down the market of non-star FAs.

I consider those 3 ideas the best of what I’ve seen thrown around.

I'm just gonna take enscheff at his word on xwoba being the most important stat. When we acquired soler, I even said if the stat was good, soler would start getting better results soon, and he did. That and enscheff sold me on the stat.
