Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I’m bad at links, but Holly Baylor on Twitter says the Padres are ‘under the impression’ that Soler will be accepting their 3 year $42m offer.

She’s not good. She’s the one that reported Joc was resigning with the Braves for 12m. Zero stock in that rumor

I think Soler will end up with the Pads. They're trying to cut payroll, but they also need essentially anything they can get to keep up with the Dodgers, especially with Tatis out for a few months. Plus, there's more room for Jorge to play. I'm not sure what we'd do to make room. Ozuna could be traded but I can't imagine we are relying on that.

When are people going to realize Waters is not a real prospect anymore?

He's not a top-tier prospect but he's still got a good amount of value. I've heard he's been valued more than you think in trade discussions. He's not Harris nor Lang or even Muller, but the value is there.

Because of 1 bad year? LOL, wut?

If you are talking about trade value, it's true that he doesn't have the value he once did. He's definitely a secondary prospect, not a centerpiece of a deal.

She joined Twitter March of 2022 and says she works at MLB Network. There is no Holly Baylor that works in any capacity for anything related to baseball. If you keep reading her profile though is says she also works for FAX Sports: MLB which is a parody Twitter account.

Sorry, I'm just not convinced he's going to do anything. Even when he was good he was sporting BABIPs of well over .400 and his K-rate just keeps increasing. Hasn't even had a grain of real success in AAA in almost 600 plate appearances (an wRC+ in the 80s or low 90s). He may barely still be a prospect on paper, but if he doesn't do much this year he's certainly not. Look, I was on the Waters train more than anyone... I was begging for the Braves to pick him with their second pick that draft year and was so pumped when we got him. Dude isn't it. I hope I'm wrong and it was just the COVID year but I don't see it and I'm far from the only one.

Soler aside, it is disappointing that we are coming off a WS run and the 2022 budget has replaced freeman with Olson and that’s effectively allowed us to add a reliever and league average corner outfielder. Would have thought especially if letting FF go that we’d have flexibility to have added a more significant bat.

BB rate has steadily increased as well. And he is consistently among the league leaders in EV, which is part of the reason his BABIPs have been so high (he's also fast and hits from the LH side a lot). His K rate actually decreased 6% from his first stint in AAA.

Lots of reasons to still be excited about Waters. But I will concede that this is a big year for him in the organization.

Have to factor in players getting raises. Acuna, for example, finally took the big jump in his contract going from 5 million last year to 15 million this year.

Not sure if this was posted yet

So the Braves expect Acuna to be out for 2 weeks

Braves play Reds, Nats, Padres, and Dodgers during that span

The season is 162 games and Braves have enough people to win many games.

After how much I stuck my neck out for Andy Marte, I've been much quicker to get down on prospects. Not saying its right, but it is what it is... lol

Yikes. Thanks, all. Guess I was tired last night.

I think people also overlook that he is a good CF, so he doesn't need to hit like a cOF to have good value. A good glove, low average, switch hitting CF with pop is useful and may let him contribute long enough to figure things out.
