Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

FYI, from Robert Murray’s latest piece: “One additional item on the Braves: While Freeman is clearly their No. 1 priority, sources say Alex Anthopoulos has been aggressively working the phones. Something to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks.”

Considering we need a 1B (Freeman or not), 1-2 outfielders, a DH, a 4th SP, and some BP help, there's quite a bit of work for Alex to do. I do think we make a small splash before the lockout though.

AA usually works quicker than anybody and likes getting stuff done early. He won’t set around and wait on FF, he has an outfield to build.

A GM is busy during the off-season? Breaking news!

I swear some of these guys must feel like they have to say something every day, no matter how meaningless it is.

Strictly a wild ass "What if". Padres send Hosmer, $20M and McKenzie Gore while Atlanta sends Ozuna and middle road pitching prospect? This is just supposing FF moves on.

Creative - Take a chance at Gore?

Padres do weird stuff so maybe they jump at it.

Hosmer is owed 60 mil the next 4 years, would be 40 mil over 4 years. Hosmer is pretty bad but shedding Ozuna and getting Gore is interesting. I think they're more likely to deal Myers, but they'll try to shed Hosmer i'm sure.

Finally got some FA action.

ERod to the Tigers for 5 years, 77-80 million, per Passan. Opt-out after Year 2.

FG had him at 4/80, and MLBTR had him at 5/70.

The opt out adds some value to the contract for ERod, so it looks like both sites undershot a bit. That is reasonable considering it usually takes a bit of an overpay to get guys to sign early in the FA process.

FG got closer though.

agree. You wonder what the CBA will do.

Typically, AA gets the guys he wants in November and then circles back to other guys to fill holes.

No CBA issues then I'd expect him to sign an OF and a starting pitcher and then wait on FF, bench and pen.

I think he’ll make a trade before signing anybody unless they fall in his lap.

Listening to a podcast with Passan on it, said Verlander and Syndergaard are probably next in line to sign. Lot of interesting stuff discussed.

Yakees have apparently met with Freemans representatives.

Not surprise. His reps will probably meet with as many teams as possible to drive up the price.

Apparently AA spoke at some season ticket holders event over the weekend at Truist Park. Someone who attended recapped it on Reddit, link below. A few things of note that stood out:

-Seemed like there is a good chance Acuna could be back for opening day

-Seems like Duvall will definitely be back

-Seems like Soroka will definitely be tendered a contract (there was speculation otherwise recently)

I know everyone here hate him but if we are looking for a centerfield we should try to sign Chris Taylor. He can play all over the field.

I think Duvall is the plan here. A guy just good enough to play the position who is an average hitter. Don't think anybody is going to complain if he puts up a 2 WAR season while primarily playing CF.

Not at all. Gotta like that quick strike CFr!

Nothing wrong with Duvall for 1 year at 9 mil. No real long-term committment, and Pache can get some more time or be used in a trade to help the big league club.
