Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Wright, Pache, Contreras, filler for Reynolds, that enough to pry him away?

I don't think the Pirates are going to be played for mugs by the rest of baseball now that they have a legitimate GM in charge. They've got a really nice set of prospects coming through their system. They may not be a finished product by the time Reynolds hits FA, but they will be close. I don't see this proposed offer as moving the needle at all. Pirates would ask for Ian Anderson as the centerpiece.

Probably not enough.

Just looked at Bryan Reynolds numbers, holy **** he's quite impressive. Yeah it would take a ****ing haul. But this seems like the offseason for AA to finally make that big trade we've all been wanting him to make.

I wouldnt move Anderson given the team control he has, but i can understand asking for him if i'm the Pirates.

Yeah backup catcher for 4 million I think threw us all off. He has to have a good idea on a trade and either Lango or Contreras is being asked for. If we deal with Oakland then Matt Chapman could be an option to with Riley going to LF. Anybody’s guess what he’s up to.

Seeing alot of fans think it's crazy that there's hardly any leaks from the Braves when they make a move. The team just makes a big press release lol.

What’s the guess on the next move?

Outside of Duvall being back which looks likely, i'll say AA makes his annual splurge on a starting pitcher. No idea for who. Or brings back Rosario on a team-friendly deal if possible. I dont think the Freeman situation is settled until the new CBA is reached one way or the other.

Could be a decent trade market for Conteras if we decided to move him. 6 years of team control. FA C market is not good.

Actually wonder if a package headlined by Langeliers could open the door to circling back around to the D-Backs for Marte.

He'd be a really nice and inexpensive option for them to pair with Carson Kelly behind the plate for the next several years, and he and Del Castillo would be a high-upside pair in the future if Del Castillo is able to stick back there defensively. They seem to have all but given up on the idea of making Varsho a Catcher (listed as their CF on their current depth chart) - which makes sense since that will help his bat and wheels play up. Aside from those three, they don't have another Catcher in their Top 30 prospects, and Del Castillo isn't going to come fast since his defense needs LOTS of work.

Marte's high walk/low K profile would fit really well between Freddie and Ozzie if Freeman's brought back. That would allow Duvall to play LF and Alex could bring Rosario or Pederson back to be the DH.

In other news, looks like Mets will hire Billy Eppler as their next GM for now. Still sounds like they want to get Stearns from the Brewers though next winter.

I hope we don’t trade Langeliers bc I think he’s the long term answer there but if he can bring back a difference maker that is controlled then yeah I’d trade him.

With the Reds looking to cut salary, Langeliers, Pache or Waters, and an arm or two might look pretty enticing in a deal for Castillo or even a bit less as an offer for Gray.

Morton/Fried/Castillo or Gray, and Anderson would be awfully tough to beat in a playoff series.

Unless you count offering Duvall arb, I’m going to guess a trade for Matt Olson.

Moving on from Freeman this early would be surprising. Olson is fantastic but i'd hope it would come with a new deal of some kind.

He’s controlled for 4 more arb seasons, and I’d project him for roughly 15 WAR over that time. I imagine he’ll be paid $40M-$50M over those 4 seasons.

So we are talking roughly $100M in surplus value. Pache would be roughly half that value. Add in 2-3 good prospects and you’d be onto something.

So Pache, Wright, Contreras and another real piece like Harris/Waters would be pretty close. If I’m the Pirates I’d probably look for a better headliner in a Reynolds trade though.

Think we're moving on from Freeman?

They just dropped real cash on a backup catcher, and will likely give Duvall another $9M. Those are moves a team makes when they decide to spread $30M around the roster rather than throw it all at a single player.

Or payroll is going $180M+ and they can afford all this stuff. I honestly don’t put anything past AA at this point.
