Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Unsurprisingly, the Athletics are putting a very high asking price on Matt Olson in any trade talks, as MLB Network’s Jon Heyman tweets the A’s are “shooting for the moon” in their demands. It remains to be seen whether any team will line up on an Olson trade, and yet parting with a big trade package would probably be justifiable, considering Olson’s impressive track record. Olson is the most prominent of what could be several Oakland trade candidates this winter, as the club looks to be cutting back on payroll.

What’s plan B?

I still think we sign Freeman eventually, but im not sure what the package for Olson could be. And who is the headliner going to Oakland.

Why would Ozuna be out next year? Literally just missed an entire season. I cant remember any suspensions over a year long.

Well most of the time he missed in 2021 he was on the DL. He technically was on the DL until Sept 10th when he was placed on administrative leave. Nobody , except MLB and possibly the Braves themselves, have an idea on what's going to happen. But I suspect when he's suspended he will have a chance to do 'time served' from the Sep 10th date when he was taken off the DL. And he would have to pay back any money he got while on administrative leave for it to count as well. I suspect he will be suspended for around 80 games. That seems to be what most of these suspensions cover in a case like Ozuna where charges are dropped.

Ozuna can still hit and hit well (no pun intended), so if he does come back at the all star break he could really help us out big time. It just sucks that we’ll have to keep a temp DH around until he gets back. I’d lot rather have Soler.

Sign Soler regardless and have him play DH/LF.

Will Soler, or any prospective DH, wait until after the CBA is finished to sign? You have to think no NL team are going to sign a player to fill the DH spot without it being guaranteed to be coming. Just a lot of uncertainty this offseason.

It's been a pretty quiet market so far. I'll be interested who signs before Dec 2nd, and who tries to get paid before the lockout happens which is like in 2 weeks. But i agree, no NL team is gonna waste money on a DH type guy until thats confirmed. But how long will the lockout last, ST is around Feb/Mar.

That remains to be seen. He certainly wasn't setting the world on fire before his injury. Now, being out of shape and out of the MLB for most likely a year or more, I don't think we should be expecting huge things from Ozuna going forward. If he can put up something similar to what he did in STL, we should take it and be happy.

Unsurprisingly, the only players who have signed so far are guys whose markets won’t change based on the availability of the DH in the NL. It’s been a bunch of pitchers and a backup C as of right now.

The very top of the position player market, especially the SSs, may not be affected by the presence of the DH, so they may sign early. I expect all other hitters to wait on the DH though.

Soler can more than fake it in the field. If Braves could live with Ozuna so t see why they couldn't line with Solwr.

Probably the best way to manage DH is to rotate players based on matchups. An NL team could just look at it as building depth.

Course that's not how the NL has typically done it.

Need to see it reported by someone legit but that would be something. His contract is only supposed to be like 4-40ish/5-50ish or so, not too bad. Not sure AA would allow this to leaked like this though.

A corporate entity that sees the bottom line as the primary responsibility as a fiduciary would be more likely to sign a guy like this in my opinion. The potential new revenue streams that would open up if he is any good as a pro would be worth many multiples of any consideration paid.
