Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Let’s just hope Ozuna will have some resemblance of 2020 Ozuna instead of the disaster he was to start 2021

He probably wont be quite as good as he was in 2020 and probably not as bad as 2021. But probably gonna be off to a slow start given he's been out of baseball for awhile.

This is my fear. We all know he has had issues staying in shape, and who knows what has happened to him over the past year.

Ozuna put up a 1.067 OPS in 60 games in 2020. He followed it up with a .645 OPS in 48 games in 2021. If he's the latter guy, he won't be on the team for long regardless of his off the field issues.

And its not like he was just getting unlucky. His barrel % was way down, his exit velocity was a career low, his hard hit % was the worst of his career, all of his expected stats were way down, and his walk rate was down 5% from 2020.

He's under contract for 3 more years, we really have no choice but to keep him unless someone would take on his contract.

Passan: In a proposed playoff expansion, there would be 14 teams, division winners would choose their opponents in a three-game wild-card round and the best record in the league would get a bye into the division series.

Half the damn league in the playoffs, yeah dont like that at ****ing all.

I don't either. But that's more money for the players/teams and money talks.

I really doubt the Braves will find a trade partner for Ozuna. So I'd have to assume we will have him for next year. I'm guessing that pretty much takes us out of the running for the likes of Soler and Rosario and Joc though.

I'm more interested in adding flexibility with rosters. Really allows teams to sort things out by the end of the season.

New playoff format I think would be a net positive to baseball. More games that mean something the better.

We still need another outfielder. Right now, our outfield is Duvall if he's tendered, Acuna off an ACL, Ozuna will be DH but out the first 20 games. And there's one slot for the other OF spot. I think we could bring back Joc or Rosario if the money is reasonable enough.

It helps explain why so many fringe teams (Seattle, Toronto, Texas, Mets, Detroit, Marlins) have all spent big money this offseason. It may also explain why the elite teams have been quiet.

Baseball is about to become the ultimate parity sport, if it wasn’t already.

Ozuna's suspension is retroactive. He will be ready to play on opening day.

It makes regular season almost irrelevant if half the league is in the playoffs just about. Only the top two teams record wise from each league get an advantage.

We know what happened to him over the last year because we saw the video of his HR in winter ball. He got fat, and I'm guessing he's going to stay fat. He is currently a 31 year old professional athlete with the body of a 41 year old retired cop. I have serious concerns he is even MLB-average in 2022.

Hopefully he gets it in gear and puts in some work.

Time for Ozuna to just pull a Babe Ruth. Get fat and hit dingers. He doesn't need to see the field.

Or becomes Nelson Cruz overnight.

I don’t know… I know it seems like a long time ago but I remember specifically some red flag trends in his peripherals and statcast data

What are everyone's thoughts on how many games will even be played next year? We are headed towards this lockout with seemingly no resolution remotely even in sight.

Braves signed Kirby Yates per Passan. 2 years, 8+ mil. There's your RH setup man.
