Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I'm guessing there are 29 pitching coaches out there who believe they can fix Newcomb. It's always that way with guys with electric stuff that they simply cannot harness consistently. I agree that he'll be someone else's project next year.

Yep. Once in a hundred, they're right. It's somebody else's turn to wait on Newk.

6 years 180m for Freddie is starting to feel light.

Crazy inflation in this market.

You're right. I think he'd still bite if we offered this.

My thought is, Freddie is worth more to the business operation than he is purely as a baseball player. It feels like AA is making an offer based on his value as a baseball player, likelihood for regression, etc. Why isn't Terry McGuirk involved, saying, let's go a little longer and higher, just for this guy?

I wonder if Freddie will even sign now that Ozuna is back. I thought I read somewhere that Freddie was NOT happy with that situation.

I do remember hearing Freeman wasn’t happy with it. Maybe now that the evidence wasn’t as bad as they first reported he wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Regardless, Braves really have no options with Ozuna. Doubtful anyone trades for him, you can release him and eat all of the money, or let him play.

Until you've been married to a mentally unstable, smart but crazy person who will do anything to hurt you, even kill you, I don't think you can understand what Marcell has dealt with. Reading between the lines, my take is that he did some things he's not proud of, but that he's not the primary aggressor in this situation. We'll never know exactly what happened, and we're not used to seeing the female as an abuser, but I assure you, it happens.

Pretty sure he's going to be here. Let's hope Marcell gets in shape and contributes to the ballclub and all this stuff (and that relationship) is in the rearview. And Freddie doesn't strike me as one who would hold a grudge if Marcell has made the necessary changes and amends.

Who knows. But the situation is certainly different than what was originally reported. FWIW Freddie still follows him on Instagram. lol. Not like that says a lot. But Ozzie wished Ozuna happy birthday a couple of weeks ago and Acuna asked Marcel to invite him to his winter league team so he could play. So it seems those two are okay with Ozuna being back.

Something I didn't know is that Scherzer is one of the big player reps for MLBPA. I wonder if he felt pressure to take the biggest offer on the table like Glavine once did?

Any word on ozuna's performance in this league?

I wonder if he’ll get privileges like Clemens did where he didn’t have to travel everywhere the team did if he wasn’t gonna be pitching.

Oh please no.

I've never been as high on Alex Wood as a lot of others in here, but if the Giants are getting him for 2/10 MM (which I thought I read), that's a very good deal for them.

Only mention those veteran SPs as depth pieces/swingmen/potential Openers.

Those are about the only LHSP types that might take a 1 year "prove it" deal who would likely also put additional weight on playing here. Matthew Boyd probably fits into that category as well if he gets DFAd - I mentioned him a few days ago.

Wood would be awesome - but as you mention, he's going to get multiple years at $10+ million. With Wright, Davidson, Ynoa, Muller, Strider, getting close and/or already showing signs that they could possibly be counted on as #4/#5 types I just don't get the feeling that that's the way Alex wants to spend the money - Pache and Waters seem like bigger question marks, and it just seems like adding a LH bat for the OF would be a better use of those resources in the event you need to play Duvall in CF again once Acuna's back.

Purely a stab in the dark take - just like everyone else's.

Considering it's the Mutts, he probably gets whatever he asked for - regardless of whether it was as stupid as the kind of *hit Clemens always asked for.
