I wonder how we view Rodon. I don’t think I realized how good he was last year. If we really want an impact starter, he could be an option.
If there's the kind of money available for payroll Morosi's seemingly floating (Freddie plus a SP), he's at least a little interesting - one year plus an option at $25 million each maybe?
Fried, Moton, Rodon, Anderson would be one *elluva playoff rotation if you're out to defend your Title and can keep Freddie and add Acuna at some point.
Cannot forget adding Ozuna as well if he gives us anything.
He really replaces a Pitcher, as the DH. Everyone is adding that bat, so the Braves need him just to keep up.
Correct, but at the end of the day, it is an added bat that we don't have to go spend anything extra to get. He was already on our roster. Most teams don't have a Marcell Ozuna that didn't play last season, that they get to add to their roster without giving up prospects
guess everyone is out on soler power.
I understand the RH heavy lineup with him, but he also murdered Rgihties. I like the thought of having guys like that and Ozuna who can literally carry you for 2 weeks.
Can we play defense well enough? Aren't he and ozuna basically the same?
when does spring officially begin? training not the season smart asses...
Re: Soler, have to imagine his asking price went way up when his market doubled with the NL DH. A lot of NL teams looking to fill the hole where we already have Ozuna who are probably going to be willing to pay Soler. The days of us getting him for some sort of bargain deal are gone, so I've kind of moved on from thinking about him.
Curious what people are expecting from Ozuna. I fear that his 2020 season has people's expectations for him way out of whack with reality. Most of the projection systems have him hitting something like .260 with 20-25 homers and an OPS hovering between .800-.820. I would take that level of production from him at this point and have a hard time seeing him doing a whole lot more.
I think AA liked Verlander so much because he was short term contract. We know AA is willing to payers a premium on short term deals to minimize the long term risk. Will Rodon take a 1/25 or 2/35 type of deal? Or is he demanding a 3/4 year deal? I can't see AA going more than 2 years on him given his injury history.
Kershaw is still out there. Maybe if offered enough, he would be willing to say yes. But pretty much everyone seems to be off the assumption that he will pitch for either Dodgers or Astros. I would be surprised to see the Dodgers let him leave on a 1 year deal.
Greinke meets the criteria of a guy that would accept a 1/2 year deal, but obviously isn't a TOR pitcher at this point. More of a 4/5.
Duffy isn't expected back before June I don't think, so he's out.
No other FA SPs offer anything more than 5th starter depth. So it seems like the choices are Rodon, Greinke, or trade.
For trade candidates, John Means obviously tops the charts, but comes with a steep price tag. Sean Manae or Frankie Montas are also a possibility given how little control they have left.
This is a good summary of the most likely SP options. Verlander signed for $25M, and we know AA offered Freeman $27M. So it’s reasonable to assume AA has at least $50M left to spend for at least 2022 (which is why 1 year deals are so attractive).
I think the most likely landing spot for Olson is the Yanks for a package including Voit and a SS prospect, so I still think Freeman ends up in Atlanta. That gives AA ~$25M for a SP and a LF.
