Sources: Freddie Freeman negotiations expected to reach a conclusion in next 24 hours and possibly by the end of tonight. #Dodgers have made a strong offer, and it is unclear if the #Braves will match it.

Something tells me Freddie is absolutely waiting for the Braves to match an offer he’s received…to the very last point that he can.

Will say it's Morosi so who knows how legit it is. But i do hope something about Freeman happens so AA can move onto alternative plans.

Think I'm just about 100% in favor of Rizzo and signing Bryant to play LF (or 1B if they don't ask Riley to slide over) if Freddie signs elsewhere - let the Yankees drastically overpay for two years of Olson and sign him when he becomes a free-agent.

If you're going to offer Oakland a monster package, go get Chapman and one of their arms.

The Braves have always done pretty well when letting their FAs head to another team. If Freeman ends up elsewhere I expect that to continue.

Overspending on a 1B in his 30s is simply not a good idea, no matter how much folks think “this time is different”.

Well, I do think Morosi is good at his job. but so far, he's the only one reporting this, so who knows. I just can't believe there is no dialogue between Freeman and the Braves.

Feel like Braves p---ed Freddie off by not locking him up before free agency. This makes Braves look like the bad guy and take the PR heat, but it was inevitable when they moved to Cali. That said I will smile when he knocks us out of playoffs.

This is all "fair", but at the end of the day this is Freddie Freeman regardless of what the numbers say.

There's a reason the Packers gave Rodgers $50 million per - can you imagine how much grief their management would take (and for how long) if they let someone like him walk and he went to Denver and won another MVP and Super Bowl like Peyton did?

That's also a huge part of the reason no one knows a truly "gung-ho" Colts fan.

If one extra year and $30 million is all it would take to keep Freddie here and Alex doesn't spend it - AND Freddie LEAVES and wins somewhere else - there will be A LOT of people that won't care near as much about the 2021 Title. There are tons of intelligent arguments to make that AA did the right thing, but when you pick a fight with human nature you're simply going to lose. Common sense left most conversations any of us have long ago.

An all pro NFL QB and a guy playing 1B are nowhere near the same type of contributor to team success.

Luckily for us, it seems like AA understands this “franchise icon” nonsense doesn’t help win baseball games, and hopefully it means he doesn’t shackle the team to an albatross contract for a 1B in his late 30s. If the Dodgers can beat 5/140, they can have him.

It's impossible to find anyone who is willing to argue that the people running the Rays aren't the smartest people in the game. It' one *ell of a lot harder to find fans that are happy about it.

Honest question - if you actually were a fan and spent the first dime on merchandise or a ticket, what Rays' jersey would you buy your kid if they hadn't convinced Franco to screw himself as bad (or worse) than Acuna and Albies did?

This Freeman narrative is identical to the blabbering that went on when Mac signed with the Yankees. And he same nonsense that was said when Glavine went to the Mets.

Mac was the face of the franchise, after the other stud Frenchy flopped. He was a 7 time all star. He was the heart of the team. He was the leader in clubhouse. Players would run through brick walls for him. He could have easily won the MVP in 2004 when he posted an insane 8.6 fWAR. Blah blah blah. Literally the same conversation.

Then the Yankees gave him $85M, and the Braves were smart enough to let him walk. It worked out for the best because overpaying for an aging catcher is stupid, just a little dumber than overpaying for an aging 1B.

First base is the easiest position to get offensive production from. I'm not worries about AA's ability to find the undervalued guy who has a good season (Cron from last year).

And for the next century this is the EXACT reason Braves fans would never have the same affection for someone like Mac, Druw, Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine, etc. - and Freddie if he leaves - as Chipper and The King.

No one's questioning their decision or mettle based on looking for the best for themselves and their families - you either want to be on the Braves' Mount Rushmore or you don't. It really is that simple.

Murphy gets a pass because leaving wasn't his choice - those other guys just have to bite the bullet and understand that they'll never have the same acceptance and get the same ovations on Alumni Weekend.

My head agrees with you. My heart remembers Rico Brogna, Scott Thurman, and Julio Franco.

The Dodgers are more of a short-term, massive AAV kind of team -- I don't imagine them being incredibly enthusiastic about giving a six-year contract to an aging first baseman. I wonder if they'll find a way to get Freeman with the three-year, blank check dollar value deal I was fantasizing the Braves could convince him to sign.
