Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

The removal of the shift will slightly lessen the traditional ageing curve I think. Overall though there will be a severe degradation of bat speed.
Fangraphs did an article within the last week about how getting rid of the shift. Their conclusion is that overall we will notice very little change.

So we are out of money?
After the Braves are on record as posting a 104 million dollar profit??
Jesus those cheap MFs

We don't know that is true. That is the guess.

We probably have 10 million in reserve for deadline deals.

Liberty is relatively cheap. I hope they at least poured some of those profits into other areas (development, scouting). Maybe they need to pay down their debt for the battery.

I want to know what McGirt does and how I get that job? Seems like he gets an envelope from liberty media with a number on it. He then writes that number on another card and gives it to AA. Maybe once a week he tells AA not to break MLB's rules like Coppy. What else?

They are just as greedy as any corporation out there- shouldn't come as a surprise.

But I do believe we'll open this season with the highest payroll in Braves history and with a substantial increase from last year- something like a $22m increase and with some room to grow at the deadline as needed.

I think everyone here would love McGirts job lol.
I’m just majorly dissapointed if we are done for the fact you have a defending world champion that made tons of money and we will for all intents and purposes have the same roster as last season but have to roll out Herdia or a fringe major leaguer former Giant in one of the corner outfield spots for the first month plus.
I’d be content with the Braves signing Soler and calling it an off-season as that would show you at the least are putting some of the money you made back into the team but just seems like we are continually being saved from our ownership by a great GM.
We added McHugh which is great but besides him we have not done anything.
Will be a let down if we are done until the trade deadline.

Distinction between profit and free cash flows should be made.

"Profit" of 100M doesn't mean they have an extra 100M to spend.

We don't have to pretend like Liberty couldn't spend an extra $100m if they wanted to. They gave a special $.25/share dividend to shareholders in February- could've thrown part of that billion somewhere other than to shareholders. But, again, this is to be expected.

Braves group makes up approx 5% of total revenues for Liberty media. 3% of the internal profit KPI.

And that dividend was off of the Sirius sector of their business so I'm not really sure how this applies at all.

If AA gave Rosario 2 years, and then can't afford a back end SP, then that's the exact scenario that would make me greatly dislike the Rosario deal. And I already don't like it much at all...about as much as I disliked the Smyly deal at the time. Just like no other teams were banging down Smyly's door to sign him, no other teams are bidding up Rosario right now.

Eddie Rosario and his average offense in LF is not the type of player you sign while giving up improving other areas of the roster.

I think we need to give a real opportunity to Ynoa, Wright, Davidson, Muller and all those prospects. With 2 or 3 games a year they are not going to develop. Is 162 games and we can add during the trade deadline.

We are definitely an injury away from seeing some stretches like we saw in 2020 when we were throwing Milone, Erlin, Touki, Wright, Ynoa, and Tomlin out there for a spell and needed the offense to put up 6+ to win. But I do like the odds of Davidson, Muller, 2022 Ynoa, 2022 Wright, 2022 Touki, Elder, and Strider to perform better than that motley crew.

From whom are you guys hearing we are out of money?

Do you have links, or is this the same rumor being shared around among a couple of people using each other as a source?
