Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

This Braves-Dodgers "rivalry" is about to get a lot more contentious. Doubt there is going to be a lot of love for Freddie amongst Braves fans once the details in Olney's article become more common knowledge. Trying to strong arm a team you allegedly really want to stay with is bs.

Have to agree c2c. Freeman got caught being greedy and it bit him. Sucks for him but its done and and over with now.

Yeah he was lol. He’s bitter as hell lol

It’s increasingly obvious the reason he’s not with the Braves is felt disrespected. He has mentioned in multiple interviews that AA only called him twice and Andrew called him a lot.

On a human level I get it, you want to feel appreciated, but the Braves his entire time with the organization they have treated him as the heir apparent to Chipper Jones. What more respect can you get.

He better hope that Dodgers fan and media are as patient as the Braves were if starts off hitting .200 for two months. I don’t think those extra phone calls from Andrew will mean so much then.

He had 3 months to think about the Braves offer. And they tried to sign him even before he went to free agency.

AA gave his offer and held firm. He doesn't have the budget to outbid LA.

Olney is good and has a great relationship with Freddie (he did that twins surrogate story last year). I imagine he reached out to Freddie for comment.

Freddie spent more time telling everyone he was upset not to still be a Brave, while wearing that dodger blue uniform lol.

Such enthusiasm.

When Freddie starts hot then has his usual 2 cool down months, I wonder how LA's fans will receive him.

Doubt he will with that much protection in the lineup

Boils down to Freddie’s agents trying to play hardball and losing. Braves made him an offer in 2020 that was low because of COVID, they wanted more. Braves upped the offer before the 2021 season, they wanted more. Braves upped the offer to 5/140 after this season, they wanted more. Anthopolous gave them a deadline- said the Braves needed to move on- and they made two counter offers something like 6/168 or 5/165. AA turned them both down and made the trade for Olson within about 24 hours, got the extension done while he was en route to Atlanta.

A handful of quotes from Chipper saying that Freddie wanted to stay and chipper warned him that he’s “playing a dangerous game” and “Alex has a job to do.” Apparently Freddie was heartbroken when the Braves moved on.

Honestly not sure how to read it other than AA did exactly what he should have done.

This is almost exactly how I envisioned the situation played out.

I can't fault Freeman for trying to maximize his earnings. He's certainly earned it, probably more so than any other current Brave. Being a Brave simply wasn't as important as squeezing that last $20M out of someone (far less after taxes), and it's perfectly acceptable to push for it. I have no problem with any player looking out for themselves in a business where their employers certainly aren't.

What I do have a problem with is this act about always wanting to be a Brave. His actions (and contract) speak much more loudly than anything he says in an interview. He is a Dodger because he wanted to be super rich rather than being...super rich. So own it, and stop playing the "I'm sad" card.

Funny that it was mentioned his agent offered the Braves a 5 year / $165m deal or a 6 year / $175m deal....then signs for $162m over 6 years....honestly feel like this is on Freddie

I mean, if he OPSes .900 with 30 bombs on the season, I think they’ll be alright.

Agree 100%. Maybe with some added ego in there.

I am making this up, but I think he gets his extra 20 million over the long haul if he stays in ATL. He'd maybe get a statue if he performs. Probably gets to call games if he wants. Gets all the local endorsements, etc. It's short sighted on a lot of areas. That's why I go to ego, it's what leads to a lot of bad long term decisions. I think FF felt he earned a number and thought he had the leverage where they'd have to give it to him.

Braves gave him a huge deal after his third season.

Freddie knew ATL doesn't have LAD money.

Chipper warned him about it too.

Add in to that $57M is deferred making the real value (in todays dollars) ~$140M over 6 years. He really misplayed that one.
