BREAKING NEWS: Cubs signed our old buddy Drew Smyly to a 1 year $5.25m deal with additional $2.5m in available incentives.

Also, the cubs ordered an extra dozen cases of baseballs from MLB to offset for the HRs he will give up at Wrigley
 
I do enjoy reading the narrative surrounding Freeman/Olson shift back and forth on this board as folks go through the various stages of buyers remorse.

First, Great trade!

Then, I’ll miss Freeman!

After that, AA is a genius!

Followed by, Freeman is a jerk!

Then, poor Freeman!

And now, Olson will probably suck!

Sure. But the As clearly valued them and they have traded or looking to trade a few nice starting pitching options

All of this is hindsight so not fair to judge. I think just looking at everything how it went down, the braves would be better off with Freeman and the prospects than what ultimately transpired. But it may be the case that was simply not possible on AA timeline

Sure. We've added Rosario and Mcue with the cost difference ($15m). I don't think those are big enough needle movers to alter the long term outlook

If Contreras works out it'll be fine, but we're definitely taking a risk in trading away the beings that consume the past once time has moved on. Every year there are at least 10 MLB teams that end up playing replacement-level non-entities at catcher because the talent there is so thin, and once you have that hole it's not easy to fill. There's absolutely a chance we just put ourselves behind the eight ball at that position for years to come.
 
I didn’t want to lose Lango bc I thought he’d be a stud catcher and there will be rule changes to increase steals. I think he’ll have enough power to get to a 750 ops. That is a star.

But we did sign two vets to two year deals.

I do think Contreras will hit better than lango. Question is can he get better at catching or hit better to make up for poor catching?
What will the rules be? If it’s robo umps and low steal tries, what value is there in catcher d? In that case just don’t have a lot of pass balls and wild pitches.

Literally two people on this board are worried about Olson, and no one has buyer’s remorse.
