Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Since AA hates leaks, this information becoming public would seem to be a not so subtle message to Dansby coming immediately on the heals of the story of how Freddie overplayed his hand and ended up with less money on the other coast. If Dansby wants to be a Brave beyond this year, he will need to instruct his folks to "work with AA" to get it done before the offseason.

I somewhat disagree on whether Correa is realistic. It kind of reminds me of Maddox being signed. A talented young squad with a seemingly long window of opportunity can be attractive.

Braves are doing very well financially and with the continued development of not only the battery but Cobb County (as well as migration towards the Southeast) I'd expect conditions to only improve moving forward.

I get what you're saying. But wasn't Correa looking for upwards of $35-/$40 mil a year? Even with the Braves current payroll reaching new heights, that amount would make up 1/5 of their payroll. I just don't see it being realistic.

Plus, if a big market team really wanted him, they'd easily outbid us. That's why I always take these rumors with a grain of salt.

I'm sure thats what he wanted but there is always a difference between the big and the ask in any negotiation.

Could we afford 30M a year for 7 years? Probably.....

I get the point. Unfortunately if we give Correa the annual salary he's looking for, that's going to eat up a ton of our annual payroll and prevent us from upgrading in other areas. We are still going to have plenty of other needs next year. And players like Fried, Anderson, Riley, will begin getting more expensive in the following years. Plus, our rotation has so many question marks, especially once Morton leaves, that we have no idea how much we will need to spend there just to make it formidable.

If we end up being the winning bidder on Correa at 7 years/$30 mil next offseason, I would ask why we were not outbid for that contract. Corey Seager is the same age and got 10 years, $325 million. You know Correa wants to top that, and I don't see why he wouldn't.

Doesn't look like we were outbid on Freeman this offsesason.

The Dodgers and Red Sox will get 2 of them. I’d say Correa and Swanson will be the 2 to choose from.

The Sox signing Trevor Story would seem to suggest they don't intend on re-signing Bogaerts and have found his replacement. Of course Story could bomb this year and change that plan. Aside from that, I wouldn't anticipate on them being involved in one of those names.

You're right, but it all comes down to the suitors. How many teams were even interested in Freeman that had a legit need? We knew coming into this offseason there were very few. That was a perfect storm. Plus, he's already going on 33, bit of a different scenario.

AA has offered the type of contract that Correa currently has to big time free agents before, most notably Harper a couple of years ago. The 3 year super high AAV deal. If Correa opts out then I have no doubt AA will offer him something like that. Now whether he takes that again or shoots for the huge deal is anyone's guess.

He also offered it to Realmuto.

Maybe one of these days one of the marquee guys will bite.

But my counter to that is, with AA being notoriously close to the vest, do we really even know if he has offered deals like that before? We really only hear the player/agent side of things, and that can easily be posturing to drive up the bidding.

From what I can remember those details have usually come out after the player has already signed. But yes, I do believe AA has really offered those types of deals.

Gotta be honest. Seems like LA kinda bailed Freddie out a little bit. I don't think there were many willing to go that far for him.

Dodgers and Yankees were both heavily interested and had a need for Freddie (particularly the Yankees). While the Dodgers didn't necessarily need a 1b, they did need/want a hitter and Freddie was the best one available. We outbid both of them. Not sure what else is left to say there.

The point isn't that the Braves are going to get Correa for $300M, because that's probably not going to happen.

The point is that Correa signed for $105M and will almost certainly opt out after 1 year, and he signed with the Twins...I repeat, the Twins. I don't consider the Twins some financial juggernaut by any means, but an elite FA fell into their laps because they had the flexibility to jump at the opportunity.

So when next year's FA market contains Correa, Xander, and Swanson, the BoSox slide Story over to SS, and the Yankees and Astros have their stud SS prospects in place, the same opportunity may arise. I want AA to be able to jump at that opportunity when/if Correa or Xander become realistic options. And the only way AA gets that flexibility is to not jump at Swanson the first week of the off season because he "saw something in him the rest of the stats world is too stupid to see".
