Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I can’t believe they ask for a paid subscription for this garbage.

If you read the column, it’s pure speculation on Rosenthal’s part. He took what AA said about the team being “rattled” with FF’s departure then tried to connect that to arbitration players being jealous of Olson signing an extension. No reporting, just fodder.

Stupid journalism

It is a totally made up exercise.

We talked about the 250K figure on the board. They were negotiating and were farther apart. When it comes time to do arb both parties put in a blind number. They both move toward the middle b/c the arb picks one of the offers and you want to win.

I'm speculating that the Olson deal is going to rub some people the wrong way. But not b/c of the money. Many times, if not most, when a free agent is signed they become the highest paid guy on the team before ever playing.

The issues are:
1. they all seemed to love FF
2. They know that if AA would make this move on FF, he'd make it on them.

It's all about the second issue. Swanson knows that AA isn't going to be afraid to move on from him because of the fan base of publicity. Other young contributors know AA isn't going to bow to pressure to sign them. Maybe they take that a certain way. It's still raw.

Maybe they look at FF wanting 175 and settling for 140 and eventually realize the grass isn't always greener.

I'm not sure why anyone would resent Olson's extension. They all know what that guy has done in his career. Why doesn't Rosenthal speculate about resentment for giving Jansen $15 million?

Players on the team don't want money given to them instead of Olson. They want money given to them AND Olson. Any resentment for the Braves due to arbitration would be totally unrelated to Olson.

I'd like to know what Muller's velocity is to see if the gun readings we saw of 96-98 in his last start on his fastball were correct.

Padres trying to get Reynolds from the Pirates, not even sure what a package would look like to make the Pirates say yes. 4 years of team control left.

So why does Cashman think the Yankees would’ve automatically won the World Series in 2017 if the Astros didn’t “cheat”? There are other potential outcomes in that scenario, including the Astros still winning.

What a loser.

It will be interesting to see what's in the letter that MLB and the Yankees are fighting hard to keep secret. It would be amazing if Cashman ranted so long about the Astros only to have his own sign stealing scandal break.

I think Cashman is feeling real heat from fans.

I don't think the sons are as competitive as their old man and prefer to pocket some cash every year rather than put it all on the payroll.

Hassell, Gore, Campusano, and one of Paddack/Morejon/Weathers would probably get it done - and might not particularly even hurt the Padres.

No one loves to be photographed talking on a cell phone more than Cashman.

what a pathetically obvious staged photo.. Lets put me in the dugout to be apart of the team, in my business attire to look serious, but no jacket to not look too serious... but I need to throw my wedding ring in so I can relate to the families out there... probably on the phone to his doctor asking when his nuts will finally drop so he stops sounding like a pre-puberty young boy.

Seems like a swap of bad contracts. Kimbrel was pretty terrible for CWS and Pollock can't stay healthy.
