Official 2023 Playoff Thread

Thank God hat AA didn’t give Wright an extension after last season. We need another starter bad in the offseason and maybe 2 if Morton retires

I still remember how stoked I was when Wright fell to the Braves in the draft. Sucks he only really figured out how to pitch with his stuff for 1 season.

This news likely means the Braves have to go cheap in LF so there are resources to acquire a SP. so we probably get to watch Rosario next season backed up by someone like Pillar…but hopefully better than Pillar.

Assuming the Braves keep Rosario ($9M), Morton ($20M), and McHugh ($6M), I have the actual 2024 opening day payroll at $195M and a luxury number at $205M with 2 holes on the bench, and 1 hole in the rotation. The cap next year is going to be around $237M.

It's hard to tell how much the Braves can spend, but I think it's safe to assume they will be at $230M+, and could easily blow past the cap towards $250M.

So that leaves the team with something in the neighborhood of $30M-$50M. That's certainly enough to fill the projected holes on the roster with almost anyone AA wants to target. I suspect AA will do what he usually does...tries to get an impact SP on a huge 1 year deal.

Kyle Wright placed on 60 day IL with a shoulder strain. This obviously explains why he didn’t make the roster

This seemed inevitable since the first cortisone shot. I don’t blame him or them for holding out hope and delaying surgery since this type of thing is usually a death knell

One season and a great World Series. Not the return you want with that pick but you can see why he was highly thought of.

I don’t see AA having any illusions of filling the rotation gaps internally. Hopefully Morton is down for one more year. It feels like we need to bring in one mid rotation starting pitcher (Sonny?) and one backend innings eater.

Not sure if Snit did this intentionally or unintentionally.

"Kyle is not right," manager Brian Snitker said. "He's going to have to have a procedure done in order to get him right."
