I'm gonna guess when Dipoto heard that we would eat Gonzales and White's money and take Kelenic off their hands, he didn't even look at Phillips and Kowar's medicals. He hung up the phone and called the league office before Alex could change his mind.
 
Ken saying the Cease market is heating up. Noting the Rangers, Yankees as most likely. Said he got a tip that the Rangers might get him but it wasnt true. Still tbd if he's moved before opening day.
 
Ken said Padres trading a pretty deep offer for him (pause). Outbid the Rangers.

Musgrove, Cease, Darvish is a pretty strong top 3, and they still have Xander, Machado, Tatis, among others in that lineup. It is a weird trade though, maybe Preller got bored and wanted to do something.

Straight up one for one and assuming we dont sign Lopez to make up the salary difference, I would probably have done that too. It would put us in great shape for 2 years to win it all. But a deal probably is AJSS + Waldrep + Vaught or another decent prospect. And we just cant do that. We have to have some good young players to be able to afford all these stars. We cant afford to be paying 8-10 million a year to average or worse players to fill the holes on the team and then pay what its going to take to re-sign players like Acuna.

In my opinion, this is more a safety net for injury. Duvall is serviceable. Forest Wall is desperate.

It doesn’t hurt to have the option to give Kelenic some time off against tough LHP
 
Bowman says Braves have told Kelenic that he'll platoon with Duvall. Don't want to overreact, but them changing the plan paired with a dreadful spring for Kelenic seems concerning.
