Hector Gomez says the Dodgers are going to push hard to sign Ohtani and trade for Trout. There’s way more risk than reward involved in this…

If Fried could be flipped for prospects and those used to get Cease and or Robert and then sign Yamamoto or Montgomery would you do that? I would.

This is crazy, but at this point nothing would shock me. AA has dumped literally 25% of the 40 man roster in a couple days.

I really can’t think of any reason to dump a bunch of AAAA players to make room for a bunch of different AAAA players

That’s what I’m thinking. He has to have something up his sleeve to bring in multiple players and the only way to do it would be to make a trade where we get multiple players back.

No because I would bet on contract year magic. I would bet on Fried having a career year and he doesn't get paid enough this year to prevent us from signing Yamamoto or Montgomery.

Why is Yamamoto a pipe dream? It's not like we're short or cash.

Ya I don’t get that he’s a pipe dream.
If your handing out 150 for a number 3 that pitches up to a 2 sometimes, I don’t see why you wouldn’t go 220 with the posting fee for a guy that projects to be better then Singa and a legit number 2

AA has literally said they are looking to bring in a frontline starter and is increasing payroll. There’s zero reason to think he’s a pipe dream. Will we get him? Probably not but we have just as good a shot as any if we wanted to be aggressive in the bidding

Because it's looking like it's going to take a contract around 6-7 years at 200 mill plus and we would probably need to significantly beat a similar offer by a West coast team. Yamamoto profiles as more of a 2/3 SP than a Fried level ace. He is also significantly shorter than Darvish/Ohtani. I just don't think it's reasonable to expect AA to pay 30-35 million a year for 6+ years for someone who hasn't ever pitches in the majors. We have never been a team to sign high end FA pitching to long term contracts. Beyond that he might even want opt outs which should be a deal breaker but that's just me.

If we were a West coast team I would agree with you

Weirdest move might be non-tendering both Penn Murfee and Angel Perdomo a week after picking them up, despite there now being plenty of room on the forty-man roster.

Maybe hoping to sign them to minor league deals and this have us a week of time to negotiate. I can't imagine they will be picked up if they lasted on waivers for us to pick them up.

AA's intention here is pretty obvious in my opinion. Like many of us in north GA, he is a Rome Braves fan who is unhappy about the Penguin rebrand. He's just making moves to bury their story in the news cycle.
