Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

My best friend is a Mariners fan and he’s LIVID. Kelenic has a ton of talent, and Gonzales has been quality for a while now, last year aside. Good trade, IMO. Huge salary dump for Seattle too.. Ohtani push?

Kelenic is a nice lottery ticket but I really hope AA doesn’t think that fixes the rotation. We took 2 crappy contracts back in the process.

Not really, he’s a corner OF with major swing and miss issues. The upside is an above average platoon bat. Don’t think that’s worth taking on 2 turd contracts and cutting into the budget.

lol okay man… just another one of your bad reactionary takes.

He was basically the same as Rosario last year with a ton more upside. Dude was the #3 prospect in all of baseball just in 2021 in a terrible player development organization. You’re whining about taking a chance on big time talent for basically only giving up money which have **** loads of

Like the risk with Kelenic. But dont like taking on those two contracts.

If Kelenic were a FA, I wouldn’t be upset giving him 2 years $27m which is basically what this amounts to (I doubt White or Gonzalez contribute much other than being a fresh arm).

The Braves have acquired Jarred Kelenic from the Mariners, sources tell @TheAthletic. Rest of deal not yet known.

Pre-Arb, so likely less than $1 MM (paid $729,400 in 2023). Good power. Lots of Ks. Former first round pick (6th overall) of the Mets in 2018. Was part of a package that went to the Mariners from the Mets in the deal that sent Diaz and Cano to New York.

Kelenic will be the everyday guy out there and has a ton of upside so Grissom is toast here now. Maybe AA pulled the trigger on this bc he has a Grissom trade lined up also. We’ll see soon.

This is SP depth so AA can use other depth in a separate trade. I’d be surprised if a big SP trade don’t happen by tomorrow.

Maybe a trade involving a starting pitcher coming to Atlanta with Grissom and Elder going the other way, which makes the addition of Gonzalez as a back-end depth option make more sense. As Cy's mom has taught us, you can never have too many back-end depth options.
D@mn....

Mariners throwing in cash, too, so I'm interested to see how much considering that albatross White contract.

White contract is only 2 guaranteed years. Not that terrible aside from the fact that he's a waste of a roster at spot. If he were able to play another position besides 1b, I would feel better about it.

I dont like having White, but we probably had to take on that deal to get Kelenic.
