Unlike Grissom, Ignacio's lack of power appears to be due to hitting the ball on the ground too much. Perhaps he is a swing adjustment away from being an impact bat. He is definitely the guy to watch in the system this year, and we should be cheering for a 40%+ fly ball rate from him.

Moreover, unlike Grissom, reports on his defense have been good—good enough, indeed, to think he may actually stick at SS. It’s an interesting development, since, as I recall, he was drafted as a defensively-gifted 3B and then moved up the spectrum to SS.

That mfer aint playing SS at the professional level...Especially in Boston

No one will confuse him with Andrelton or even Dansby, but he looks competent at SS.

Been awhile since we had a bigtime position prospect to drool over that was actually drool worthy - MH2 was the last one I believe.

And before you say “Grissom,” I said “drool worthy,” and not “cringe worthy.”

I would have loved to have Cease but AA did the right thing in keeping AJSS and Waldrep. AA is doing a good job building the farm.

Dumb question but if you could get him for AJS, Elder, and one of the pitchers not named Waldrep, would you do it?

Baseball America top 100 is out. Smith-Shawver 42 and Waldrep 49. Owen Murphy and JR Ritchie were the only other Braves prospects to receive any votes from the BA prospect writers.

I think the potential with AJSS is through the roof. I know Enscheff or others will talk about his spin rates and yadda yadda yadda, but AJ has only focused solely on pitching for a little over 2 years now. And yet he has already made the jump to the majors before his 21st B-day. I think there is a ton of untapped potential here.

I know the depth isn’t there anymore, but the Braves have a few young prospects with legitimate hype and potential. AJ Smith-Shawver, Hurston Waldrep, Jose Perdomo, Ignacio Alvarez, Owen Murphy, JR Richie and Spencer Schwellenbach, among others.

Amazon just bought the streaming rights to the Marlins, Rays, Royals, Brewers and Tigers during the Diamond sports bankruptcy.

Does this mean fans in those areas will only be able to watch their team on Amazon prime? Does that seem like a good thing for baseball in those small markets? Or is Amazon going to make those teams nationally available like the Braves were with TBS?

I'm on the opposite end of the AJ spectrum. I like him enough but I love Waldrep infinitely better while knowing that if he doesn't get that command together, he's bullpen bound. It's not AJ'S fault he skyrocketed through the minors, but I wish he'd have gotten a solid developmental year in the minors. His fb seems to flatten out the longer he goes but again, that could be youth and figuring out when to air it out and when to use secondary pitches more. Eh..the farm is starting to slowly rebound.

I've been a broken record on this (and I honestly don't know if it will make much difference in how his career unfolds), but, as you say, he's only been pitching since his senior year in high school and he graduated in 2021 and I thought he shouldn't have been rushed the way he was. He showed signs of great potential, but he also showed that he's far from a finished product. I'm old school and realize things have changed, but learning as opposed to executing at the major league level is not a surefire recipe for success. Waldrep is a different case because he has pitched three years in college and the learning curve won't be as steep.

Not Hudson, but nope. No way Jose. I’m a prospect hoarder and I’d like to see AJSS take his shot in an ATL uni. Said differently, I’m gambling that AJSS for six years > Cease for 2

I make the deal. Can't miss prospects often do. Elder is fungible and whoever else is in that pu pu platter isn't going to be as well-regarded as Smith-Shawver.
