Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I'm not sure i get it from the Astros POV. Altuve/Bregman are FA's after this year, JV has a mutual option that can or cannot make him a FA. Then Tucker, Valdez are FA's in 2 years. Couple others as well. It's a good move for them but abit odd to say the least. As others have said, least it's not the Dodgers or Phillies.

This is a Crane move imo. I dont think Dana would do this.

You say that, but one consistent aspect of the Anthopoulos FO is spending FA money on RPs. Looks like Brown has taken that feature with him to Houston.

Ex-Brave Craig Kimbrel is 21 saves away from being fourth all time in career saves. He’s had quite a career, and he’ll rack up a lot of saves for the Orioles barring an injury

Btw. The Orioles are freaking stacked and stacked deep in the minors.

Not sure how many save opps he’ll be getting.

I learned theres only like a 1% chance those prospects individually turn into good players, so odds are they wont work out.

It’s looking like Snell and Monty may be the guys without a chair once the FA music stops.

What do we think about AA snatching one of them on a 1 year pillow contract if it comes down to that? Should AA have foreseen this possibility and made sure there was powder left to burn on a guy like that? There seems to be 1-2 every single year.

So, do we blame the players or their agents when a few guys overplay their hand like this every year.

I think I would be really mad at my agent if that happened to me. (not that there was ever any possibility of that happening) 😀

It tends to be Boras clients who overplay their hands, and those players become Boras clients specifically to get the biggest deal possible. They certainly are warned of the worst case scenario when they reach FA, and they must be OK with it.

The blame falls on the player, and I can’t really be upset at them trying to maximize the fortune they are paid from the coffers of an even richer organization/industry.

I would just like to see the Braves be the team that has Correa fall in their lap for 1 season. Just once. And since it happens almost every single year, I would like to see that inevitable bargain to be planned around.

I think AA has the powder, but the luxury tax draft pick may be more valuable to him than one year of Snell. He could have stayed well below but then we wouldn’t have this elite bullpen for October. And he still has to sign Pilar or whomever.

All that typed, I think he probably would indeed make a one year offer on the low side and see if Boras bites - but I’m sure the Yankees are thinking along these lines too… and this may go into spring training- Boras isn’t in any hurry here.

Sounds like a pretty great idea though it might constrain the deadline moves.

Also Montgomery is a SC boy and seems like a Brave anyway and is trying to leverage a small sample playoff run into big contract. Always felt like he was a real possibility.

Cant see either of Monty/Snell settle for a 1 year deal. Could see a high AAV 2-3 year deal with an opt out so they can hit the market again. Have seen both players have good markets, just taking time for them to sign.
