Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

You dorks wouldn’t even have noticed if this other dork hadn’t pointed it out.

By the way, the fourth button from the top is 1/8” smaller than the other buttons. The horror

I feel like we must have changed the home whites multiple times since 1991, but I can't tell you a single one of them. More polyester in the fabric?

We’ve changed the Away script for the absolute worse. The helmet A has also lost its unique look.

This Bobby Witt is fascinating.

11 years 288m
Club options for 14 years 378m (30m club options presumably)
Opt outs after years 7, 8, 9, 10

The Royals bought out at least 3 free agent seasons by guaranteeing $288m. If Witt plays well, he’s very likely going to opt out of this contract (unless this contract is significantly backloaded, even then he might still opt out). If Witt gets hurt or sucks, he’s still going to be paid like a top 5 short stop.

I’m happy for KC they get to keep their homegrown star, but it’s another data point that whatever market efficiency existed when AA signed all those guys to team friendly extensions has seemingly dried up.

Fortunately the summer weather in Atlanta is definitely going to get significantly colder over the remainder of Murphy's contract, so that problem should solve itself.

We now know the reason Murphy was getting so much time off. He was struggling with the Atlanta heat. There obviously had to be a reason. People want to just assume the manager is an idiot to explain everything they dont understand or like and forget the human element of the game.

I've stopped questioning the way the Braves handle the C position because it's the only position player spot Snit seems to manage competently (beyond "stick the starter in every single day"), and the organization as whole was done an amazing job for a decade now with catcher tandems.

As someone who comes from the West just to sit in the stands, I can confirm that the climate is brutal for the unacclimated. I couldn't even imagine sitting through it in catching gear. Someone needs to come up with a chest protector that holds cooling packs or something.

I even said that I liked them playing every other day in the summer. Catchers have to wear that equipment and it is a taxing position. But as the season started to end and weather settled a bit, Murphy still was being benched. Murphy is head and shoulders better than TDA and should be starting in the playoffs.

They make a halo ice pack inside the helmet. Gotta keep it cool in between innings though.

I’m not saying it was handled perfectly, and I have no idea why he didn’t catch more in the cooler weather. All I’m saying is I’ve stopped questioning how they handle the catcher position, and I assume there was a legit reason for the reduced playing time that didn’t involve the belief that Murphy isn’t the best catcher on the roster.

Willy Adames: Am I on the block? Who’s gettin’ me and for what?

Ben Clemens: I’m kinda uncertain on this one

Ben Clemens: sure, trading Burnes signals that the Brewers are looking to the future

Ben Clemens: but they’ve always operated with one foot in the now and one in tomorrow

Ben Clemens: and the return for Adames would likely not be much higher than the comp pick they’re presumably getting for a QO

Ben Clemens: hard for me to imagine that their long-term interests are served by trading him for not much, they still do need to make the playoffs this year

While Arcia is "fine" at SS, the Braves do project at #24 overall for SS. If all AA has to do is beat the value of a comp pick, perhaps Adames is attainable?
