Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Surely a leader of men as excellent as snit could explain to these guys how a little extra rest benefits the team as a whole. Isn’t that what someone like snit, with unprecedented leadership skills, should be very good at? He is such a master at managing the clubhouse, it should be easy for him to get the players on board with extra rest…as awful as that concept probably sounds to everyone involved.

In relevance to bring able to sign bench bats I don't think getting 3-4 starts to rest regulars is a difference maker to get good bench bats to sign with us. Any fringe player is going to want at least the opportunity to get more playing time if they perform well. Teams with several positions without star players can provide that. We can't.

How can anyone defend twit of his obvious flaws. A blind monkey could win 95 games with a healthy roster as constructed.

I honestly think twit is a lazy manager. Someone who stuck around an org because he didn’t do anything special to ever get another opportunity. Then he lucked into a job that makes him look better than he is. Players love him because he doesn’t get involved and the hens rule the roost. Who wouldn’t love that. Well except role players who rot.

This team should have two quality backups that play the field 2-3 times a week. Giving players days off or ops to DH. No player should play more than 150 games imo. Especially with the way the playoff structure is laid out. Guys need to be used to having breaks and getting right back into it.

And I will never forgive him for leaving elder in that game to face those lefties a second time. That sealed his eternal stupidly fate for me. Anyone defending him is just being a homer.

Managers don’t really impact total wins in reg season much. But one or two bad decisions can derail a playoff run pretty quick.

Its not about defending Snit its about defending managers in general. I dont anymore but I used to visit all teams forums to see varied opinions and in absolutely none of them did they think their manager was awesome. Almost every single one thought their manager was the worst in baseball and holding the team back. I have never witnessed braves fans being happy with the manager. Even when we had Bobby Cox he was criticized a lot by fans.

It’s fine to say Snit is a good manager while being a bad tactician. Running a team involves a lot more than setting the lineup and making a few substitution decisions each night. So when folks claim Snit is a dinosaur tactician it does not mean they are saying he is not a good manager.

And I agree with Matt. Any competent middle manager with the ability to manage adult personalities could win with this roster. The problem comes in the postseason when every suboptimal decision is magnified.

I blame AA for the postseason. He took over in 2021, and then he inexplicably gave it back the next 2 seasons

I think some consideration ought to be given to the possibility that players may play better because they're comfortable and treated well.

A family member of mine has participated in the the little camp where mlb rookies are given advice on how to be a pro.

The Braves organization gets high marks from players and speakers in that setting for treating the players well.

Oh, wow. The Phillies offered the most money to Yoshinobu Yamamoto than any team in baseball, including the Dodgers, per @ScottLauber.

Just heard where nobody picked up Rosario.
He’d be a good cheap bat-off-the-bench piece for somebody I’d think….. ahem…

The Braves need a RH bat off the bench, so unless he's switched handedness I don't think Rosario fits this roster very well.

Michael Taylor likely still fits.

Was said to be wanting a 2 year deal. Probably wants more PT than he'd get here.

DOB told EOF on his podcast that Pillar was interested in returning to the Braves until the Braves signed JK. After that he started looking elsewhere because he knew there wouldn’t be much playing time.

If that’s true, I think the Braves are going to struggle signing cheap bench guys in free agency. We probably should set our expectations on the waiver wire and/or trade market.

Riding the pine to potentially get a WS ring seems attractive....
