Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I should clarify that I consider overvaluing AJSS as thinking he will replace Fried, not that he can be a capable SP.

Well here’s a hot take: pitching is going to be an issue in 2025 no matter what and folks around here severely overvalue AJSS.

Maybe AJSS wont be the best pitcher ever, I personally am high on him, but if he can just be a mid rotation starter as a pre-arbitration players for a couple years thats insanely valuable to us. We have to develop some cheap SP to be able to afford all the contracts we have now.

I would go after Soto. Give up AJSS and Grissom. Having 2 .400 OBP bats at the top would be insane and we need someone with his patient approach in October.

Thats great and all but if we get Soto it needs to be in FA. Maybe Acuna can persuade him to come here. We need AJSS to fill up a rotation spot for cheap for a couple years. I would offer Soto 10 years 350 million which I doubt he accepts given his agent is Scott Borass who will say he is literally Jesus reincarnated and any team not offering 500 million a year isnt trying to win. We cant give up our cheap pitching for yet another high priced player. If Acuna could pull that off we should extend Acuna at the same time offering a similar amount of money for the years after his current contract runs out.

We aren't upgrading the starting pitching any...they are rolling with Fried, Spencer, Morton...and will hope Chironos , AJSS, Ynoa, or Vines can stick. You all know this is going to happen.

Shota Imanaga’s posting is getting, obviously, a lot less publicity than Yamamoto’s, but he presents a potentially-nice fit for the Braves as a lefty with no QO who is likely to sign for less than the top of the market, in terms of years and dollars (with mlbtr projecting 4/$85m).

I mean a case could be made for approaching the start of the season as is and upgrading as needed at the deadline.

Obviously, if the market is such that this makes sense, I could see it. AA is smart enough to know that there will still be opportunities to improve after the season starts.

The opening day roster is not what it will be even a month into the season.

I know some of you will be concerned if they don’t make changes before the season, but it is not that big a deal.

With the extra play off spots it wouldn’t be until the deadline until a team would sell. And then it would need to be a SP you’d feel comfortable starting in a playoff situation. And at the the deadline it’s gonna cost big time. It’s better to just spend the money now then the resources it’ll take at the deadline. We should have more options this year with Ynoa and Anderson coming back but this isn’t a team you hope **** sticks to the wall. With us being bounced in the 1st round in back to back years I don’t see AA standing pat. And ownership probably doesn’t want him to. A lot of pressure when you spend this much money a year.

AA signed Hamels and Smyly early in the offseason so I could see him trying to somebody quick before the market changes.

This is a playoff team without changes unless things go horribly wrong.

As we know the reg season doesnt really matter. Just gotta get right at the right time. There’s really not that much pressure to improve the best team in baseball. The play is likely run it back

There is the possibility that could come to pass. However it's also possible that Elder continues to improve and 1 or more of the AJSS Waldrep Anderson Ynoa group fortifies the rotation.

There's no guarantee that a pitcher we sign in the offseason would be healthy enough to pitch for us come playoff time either.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. 40 year old Morton and Frieds elbow could haunt us. I still think AA gets another good starter.

I'm definitely not saying he won't but there is a solid case for a team like ours waiting to gather more information before making that decision. Especially with the new playoff format early season innings are less impactful and valuable than innings late in the year.

Also just thinking through things how would everyone feel about Heyward on a 2 year deal and a strict Heyward/Duvall platoon for LF this year. Then next year put Heyward in RF against RHP and have Acuna take over at DH next year

This thread took a turn down Derp Lane. AA needs a SP, and there are approximately 9 guys available that are a legit #2/#3 in a championship rotation.

Get one of them. Period.
