Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I don't know if it's a smokescreen of sorts, but I have doubts about the Grissom to LF talk. If the Braves were truly serious about that, he would have been in LF in Gwinnett the day after Lopez was acquired for the big club. He's young and looks to have some power potential given his size and body type, but it clearly hasn't materialized at this point. He's starting to look like a tweener of sorts who can provide value in the right situation. I guess it remains to be seen if the current state of affairs for the Braves is that situation.

Take care Matt. Sounds like a heckuva fall.

To be fair, we hadn't yet lost Wright for the entire 2024 season (and potentially beyond given the nature of shoulder surgeries).

Not sure about the Grissom/LF talk. That's pretty damn risky, but also depends what kind of starter they pursue. Are we talking someone like ERod or Stroman, or someone in the top class like Snell, Yama, or Nola? Also, get better Matt, that sounds brutal.

I do like the idea of Nola, only question is what does that contract look like. msstate has said at some point AA is gonna have to make a risky deal on the backend to put this team over the top (i think the same thing personally). Is now the time? I guess we'll find out.

Concussed?

Punting LF to sign Yama is reasonable.

Punting LF to overpay someone like Nola is a terrible idea.

I'd sign Nola if his market collapses and he signed for a reasonable deal. But he'd probably go back to Philly if thats the case.

I agree with the sentiment that if Griss was a consideration for LF, why didn’t he get a few chances there in Gwinnett last year?

Seems like a smokescreen to keep teams from raising their asking price for LFielders.

Agree. I don't see Anthopoulos making a play for any of the pitchers listed at MLBTR at the Term/AAV they have listed. My guess is the market will readjust after the first few signings and prices will become more reasonable.

Is Morosi a bozo? He seems to be rumoring Shohei interest in the Braves due to our ability to contend long term.

Given age and QO attachment, I’d still rather avoid Nola in favor of either younger or cheaper options without QO penalties. Yamamoto is obviously the dream, but there’s some value to be found with some other guys as well.

Yes.

We need pitching, not hitting. And especially not a DH. Signing Shohei to a 35 million per year deal through age 40 doesn't sound like a AA move.

It all depends on how much his priorities have really shifted, but I sadly doubt he’d price himself down enough to make it work for the Braves.

Yama makes the most sense longterm. But i dont know if AA would give him the years. ERod is kinda interesting to me, no QO, LH, eventually could replace Fried. There's alot of options out there, this offseason and next if you do need SP.
