And I don't believe these stories anyway. Every year, athlon publishes anonymous sec coach quotes that I have always believed is total fiction for clicks/magazine sales

A trade for Glasnow would make more sense, then splurge on one of those SP's next winter. Problem is... You'd have Fried/Morton assuming he retires/Glasnow all up for FA next year. So i can see why AA may want stability. Although, i guess we could sign one of them next winter as well as sign one this winter too.
 
The more I think about it, E-Rod or Stroman (probably cost less for him) for something along the lines of 3/70 with a 4th year option would be a pretty solid back up plan to Yamamato. Or better yet, Gray assuming his QO weighs down his market.

Eduardo if he get 3 with a 4 year option is very good. We need a lefty to replace Fried.

Stroman has been my expectation for a while. So it probably won't happen.

I'd be fine with Erod for no other reason than he told the dodgers to F themselves

I would prefer good moves to interesting moves. Good teams bring in players for what they will do not what they have done. If you want a team that will bring on big name players because it's interesting then the Yankees or Mets are the team for you.

I don’t think AA has a type other than undervalued in the market. There are a lot of efficiencies that can be identified through the analytics that the braves have prioritized since AA took control.

I think every GM targets those type of guys. But AA has deviated in the past from that mold (eg Keuchel).
 
Alex hasn't let the market dictate an overpay and I suspect the market will dictate that for all the top pitching candidates.

He has shown a willingness to set and end a early though.

Seems like there isn't much choice but to something though. So maybe we will see an error.

I think Smyly was an example of the analytics team mistakenly judging a jump in Smyly's velocity in the shortened 2020 season as something he would maintain going forward. Like Southcack77 pointed out, I think it was the front office thinking "bargain at this price" and Smyly gladly obliged. I think you're both right.

I don't think it says much of anything about how Anthopoulos will approach this off-season.
