Latest note on Nola from MLBTR:

“Nightengale’s report goes on to suggest that Nola’s camp is seeking a seven-year, $210MM deal while the Phillies have countered with a six-year, $150MM offer at this point.”

To be clear, a 7 year deal would cover his age 31-37 seasons. That’s a big no thank you.

That came together quickly, probably because the Phillies were bidding against themselves. I was a hard no at the predicted 6/150, and 7/170+ is even worse.

That sets the market. Yamamoto will probably be around the same price but with a posting fee attached. I’d do that deal for him.

I think that's the big thing with the signing. Snell probably tries to go higher in AAV, but the pecking order is now pretty much set and we'll have to see how the offers/negotiations unfold.

Based on the very limited info we have, it stands to reason the Braves offer was around 6/150 (the last reported offer by the Phils) which was then topped by the 6/172 contract.

That tells me AA is willing to go upwards of $25M over any reasonable number of years for a SP, so the cash is there for anyone and only “stupid” money can outbid AA.
