Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I don’t hate IKF I just would’ve rather kept Lopez and his elite elite glove, especially since they’ll probably be around the same dollar amount. Lopez is also a lefty which has its benefits. Sorta bummed AA just threw him away.

I thought letting Lopez go was a really odd move. Covers all three IF positions. I get the problem with short benches and probably opting for a better bat off the bench, but Lopez checked some pretty important boxes.

Yeah, i would have kept him as well.

DBacks trading for Eugenio Suarez from the M's for RHP Carlos Vargas and C Seby Zavala. Odd move from Seattle. Great move by AZ.

Regarding the Reynaldo signing I wonder if the Braves could try out a concept I like a lot which is piggybacking SP. Specifically Elder. I think pitchers who can get through the batting order twice but not a third time are undervalued. We put so much emphasis on eating innings that often times teams run out a SP for a 5th or 6th inning simply because they need to rest the pen. Now with more roster spots I think it really opens up the possibility for piggybacking pitchers. My idea would be Elder for twice through the batting order or 4 IP and then Lopez for twice through the batting order or 4 IP. Ideally I think you would want a lefty and righty combo so batters dont get used to a release point but Elder throwing 90 MPH and then bringing in Lopez throwing 96+ could also help throw off batters timing. Elder has a 2.86 ERA the first time through a batting order, 3.70 ERA the second time, and 5.02 the third. Worst case we are losing we can let Lopez go 5 IP to finish the game or bring in a mop up reliever or someone who just needs to pitch because they havent in a while. If losing on the road we wouldnt even need a pitcher for the 9th. If winning we could bring in the closer. If winning by a lot we could keep in Lopez for the 9th.

Could we add Ohtani, Yamamoto, *and* Shota Imanaga? That's 3 Japanese players. Revenue would skyrocket (and player costs, too). That's potentially 3 SP's from 2025 onward. We would need to trade some players off of this year's team (maybe Fried and Ozuna?) and what if Morton's return isn't really set in stone?

Yeah Yamamoto’s will either go play with Senga in NY or follow Ohtani wherever he goes. I hope they don’t both go to the Dodgers. I feel like if Gray was the target we’d have signed him already. I think he’s wanting 4 years and AA isn’t gonna do that for a 34 year old.

Is this a real account?

Yeah, I'm a real account... Just a bit on the hopeful side. I very much doubt we'll get 1 Japanese player, much less 3.

My username is because my grandparents liked the Walton's show long ago and there was a John Boy character on there that I looked like.
