Yoshinobu Yamamoto wants to play with other Japanese players, his agent told the Japanese media.

He plans to make his decision after the Winter Meetings.

For those who don't understand, traditionally there's been a theory that Japanese players don't want to go to a MLB team with a Japanese player because of something to do with like Elder respect or something like that. I'm not expert on Japanese culture but it's something I've read in the past.

If that’s what Yamamoto wants, then that definitely hurts the Braves chances of getting him. Certainly a disappointing report. If there is going to be a TOR starter to be had, may have to come via trade. I don’t want to give Snell a five or six year deal.

If he really said that then he limited his teams to like 3. Padres, Mets, and wherever Ohtani signs. And Darvish will be retiring soon.

Maybe we can sign that Korean outfielder Hoo Lee Fuk or whatever his name is for LF. Korean and Japanese are basically the same right?

Let me ask this: If the Braves are not able to sign Yamamoto or another TOR pitcher, is that when you engage in extension talks with Max Fried?

I'll say no because I think we all generally agree that Max just doesn't want to be in Atlanta...I think he's a Westy and wants to be out there.

Kyle Wright says AA told him he was given a number from up top and had to stay below that number, and that's the reason for the purge, to get every penny possible. Makes me wonder how he was going to make Nola work

That’s a much nicer way to cut a guy than “your shoulder looks like hamburger meat.”

I’m sure AA has a number to stay close to but he’s spent a ton on the bullpen and wouldn’t have knowing he had 2 bigger needs.

Yeah, this was an overreaction and AA was being nice. Toscano already squashed the intense reactions. He said: seen strong reactions, so wanted to offer clarity: Every team is working to build the best roster within the payroll figure from up top. Moves in November are part of an offseason plan/vision. Kyle wasn’t saying the Braves won’t spend big. He just wasn’t part of their plan.

Jung Hoo Lee is interesting as well for LF. MLBTR pegs him at 5/50 plus the posting fee. That likely fits in the range we're looking at for LF and he's LH which helps fill the lineup better, imo.

At only 25 he's arguably been the best hitter in the KBO league over the last several years. He also gets pretty rave reviews on his defense, being considered a positive defender at every OF spot. Scouts are mixed on how well his offense translates given the rather weak competition in the KBO, but from the limited reports I've read on him, he has extremely quick wrists and elite exit velocities.
