Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I really don't think we can get him without one of them in the deal. Unless maybe the White Sox are dumb enough to think highly of Elder, we don't have a ton to go with Grissom if we keep AJSS and Waldrep out.

It would likely be something like AJSS, Griss and Schwelly

Agreed. I deleted my post before seeing your reply, I read it as you saying we wouldn't throw in either of AJSS or Waldrep. My bad.

all good! Enscheff mentioned it before, but while you don't want to overpay, AJSS is probably a poor man's Cease, so he makes sense.

Two or three of Griss (not a prospect, I know), AJSS, Schwellenbach, Kuehler, Murphy, and Waldrep seems about right.

Probably based on an indication as to what the Dodgers (or others) may be offering. I could see the Dodgers offering Stone, Pepiot, Cartaya, and Pages/Busch.

This is probably pretty close to the package the Sox are asking for, which seems a little high for Cease. The Braves have more cash than prospect capital, so unless AA can get Cease for the obviously expendable Grissom plus filler I would much prefer the Braves sign a FA SP who will be comparable to what a declining Cease projects to be in 2024/2025.

If the Dodgers are offering a package including Stone and Cartaya…they win. And they can have him. No way is Cease worth that.

Just sign a solid #3 and worry about replacing Fried when it’s actually time to replace him. Because news flash, Cease isn’t that guy.

If the Cease bidding gets to crazy then just back out and see what 1 year of Glasnow costs. I know he’s injury prone but he can be a real difference maker and the risk is just for 1 year and we can offer the QO next year.

I'd bet on Glasnow in a contract year. Strider, Fried, and Glasnow would be formidable in the playoffs.

The odds of Fried and Glasnow both being healthy come October aren't good

Add Morton in there to being 40. Load management would be key and plenty of quality depth. Adding Glasnow and Lugo would really lengthen the rotation with quality. With Lugo and Lopez on board we’d have the most versatile rotation in baseball. And come playoff time that top 3 of Fried, Strider, and Glasnow would be nasty and Lugo would make the bullpen unstoppable. Not sure if we’d sign 2 more starters but I could see the Rays interested in Elder.

Wow, the Padres have asked the Yankees for Michael King, Drew Thorpe and "as many as four or five other prospects like Randy Vasquez and Jhony Brito" in a trade for Juan Soto and Trent Grisham. They also want money.

Dominguez, Volpe, Peraza, Wells, Torres currently not involved

He’ll stay in SD then. They aren’t gonna get back what they gave up.

Also, Bieber reportedly would be OK signing an extension with whomever potentially trades for him.

If there were no injury concerns, I’m sort of in as a Morton replacement. But meh.

I hope the Yankees trade for Soto and sign Ohtani. That will guarantee they suck for years to come.

I don’t think the Padres are going to get near the value they are asking for. Teams know they are desperate financially and need to get rid of Soto. Those teams also know that Soto will be a difference maker on their team for this season, but he will walk in FA.

Only so many teams will have the ability to pay $30m - $33m salary for 1 year, and give up high line prospects.

Passan said he's likely to get traded. Most i could see on his winter meetings preview article. Too much smoke with Soto and the Yankees for it not to happen. They need a big bat to protect/help Judge. And have the prospects to make it happen.
