Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

If we're not very interested in Cease it's probably because we're focused on another high end pitcher. My hope is Glasnow. He's a a health risk but he's a difference maker when healthy.

But Cease is a real difference maker and usually healthy… Glasnow has only pitched more than 88 innings twice

Bowman: The Braves haven’t shown interest in Shohei and their interest in Cease has been overblown. But there’s still a feeling they’ll make a couple more significant moves

I don’t expect them to show any real interest in Ohtani, so this makes sense.

I don’t want AA to win any type of bidding war on Cease because he’s way overrated.

AA almost always wins trades. The Contreras/Murphy swap stings a bit, but that trade is certainly the exception.

I like Glasnow a lot and he’s definitely a difference maker but him having just 1 year left will leave us needing 3 SP next offseason. He would be easier to get than Cease for sure. TB needs to get rid of the salary.

Buster Olney responded to Bowman with this:

Also: their offer to Aaron Nola was not close to the Phillies’ winning bid, not close to what’s been attributed to them. Braves had serious interest, but they knew all along Nola’s first choice was to go back to Philly.

And back to reality lol

There’s so much bs that gets thrown around by everybody it’s hard to know what’s true or who’s telling the truth. We just have to wait it out and see who we get. None of us saw Kelenic coming.

y’all know this means the Braves made a serious offer? It just wasn’t the same one as Philly. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good one.

Well if their offer wasn’t close to what’s been reported, it couldn’t have been that big.

I’m a little concerned there’s not as much money available as we might’ve thought

I don’t think they would have taken on the 2 contracts with Kelenic if money was tight. AA doesn’t spend just to spend.

I don't trust anyone saying we're interested in someone or anyone saying we're not. AA is as secretive as they come. It's pointless to try to figure out what we're doing. Just let AA surprise you.

This. I like Kelenic but he's not so valuable that we'd impair our financial flexibility to get him and that would be the case if money was tight.

So many reasons that Shohei Ohtani to #Braves makes little or no sense, but there’s one potentially big reason it just might make a lot of sense to some powerful folks

I don’t have an athletic account if someone wants to post the article

Basically just says if the higher ups end up thinking it could be massive for the stock price, they could give it the go ahead.

Basically an ownership level decision. They don’t wanna pay 1 guy double what anybody else makes and throw off the clubhouse chemistry.

Just stop man, you’re embarrassing yourself.

Clubhouse Chemistry won't matter if we win the ring. Adding a potential 7-10 WAR player is never a bad idea.

I don't think we will. But adding him makes us WS favorites for at least the next 2 season.

I dont really want Ohtani but if he signed with the Braves at a reduced rate I would die laughing at the response from people. The only way I see it happening is if he wants to sign a 2 year deal so he prove he can still pitch in 2025 and hit FA again. He already passed up a big payday to sign with the Angels a year or so who knows.
