Bowman: The Braves haven’t shown interest in Shohei and their interest in Cease has been overblown. But there’s still a feeling they’ll make a couple more significant moves

I don’t necessarily think either is a likely move, but I also don’t think Bowman knows **** about ****.

What would you guys think of this deal

Kim
Cronenworth
Darvish

For

Gonzales
White

Padres definitely say no, but it’s not as crazy a proposition as it should be, given their purported desire to shed salary.

I didn't realize Darvish still had six years on that deal. Jesus, he's going to be 42 at the end of it. Otherwise, $18M per year for him at this point seems like a bargain (if healthy). I thought Kim would have been a good acquisition last offseason.

After making that deal, Anthopoulos would immedidately be arrested and sent to a Super Max for committing the greatest robbery ever recorded. Seriously, I think the Braves would have to throw in Smith-Shawver or someone else highly-regarded to pull that off.

And probably an Ian Anderson type.

Robert Murray and Morosi both say the Braves are interesting in Lugo. Now that seems like a player the Braves would target given the price tag lol

I just can’t see AA signing one of the big FA SP. I wouldn’t mind being wrong but he’s so careful with money and they’re all going to get a lot.

Lugo isn't one of the big-name FA SP. He's a decent name, but he's a step below Gray, Montgomery, Rodriguez, etc.

If Seth Lugo is the only other significant acquisition we make, then I think we probably could have done better in LF, but maybe that starting pitching depth will serve us well throughout the year/give us more flexibility at the deadline when we inevitably have an unexpected need.

It seems every off-season we sort of expect a big FA signing and it never happens. Maybe it’s for the best, but whether he has the money or not AA just doesn’t really hand out huge FA deals.

I think the key is that Lugo is allegedly only looking for a three-year deal. The years are right, he's a solid No. 3 - No. 4 who can slot at No. 4 this year and move up next year, and he's got a top-notch FB with good metrics. Fried - Strider - Morton - Lugo - Elder would more than suffice.

Come playoff time Lugo would be a serious weapon out of the bp and at the deadline a good SP will be available. TW and AJSS will be ready probably after the break also and are gonna need a spot at some point to show what they have.

They haven't. AA and McGuirk have said multiple times that Liberty is hands off. McGurik and company set the budget and run the show.

Given that the Mariners made $90m in profit last year and Stanton the owner is still being tight with payroll, I think I’m fine with our current ownership situation for the foreseeable future.

I’m guessing after Ohtani signs then the market is gonna blow up and move fast. Guys like Montgomery will come off the board fast.

Mark Feinsand wrote this at MLB.com.

One industry insider predicted that even after acquiring Jarred Kelenic from the Mariners and signing Joe Jiménez, Reynaldo López and Pierce Johnson for a combined $70.3 million, the Braves aren’t done.

“The Braves have another big move in them,” the source said, adding that Atlanta GM Alex Anthopoulos “is lathered up.”
