Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

AA shot down the Ohtani rumors. Said the only position player they've pursued this offseason is Kelenic. Said any rumor to the contrary is fabricated.

I think DeRosa nailed it last night when he said that wherever Ohtani goes he’s gonna be the top dog in the dugout and command all the attention and some clubhouses won’t like that. AA is a big clubhouse guy and won’t disrupt that.

I am seeing many Twitter users are correctly pointing out that DH is not a position player.

We have some terrible beat writers for not clarifying this.

I think Ohtani is going to spurn the Dodgers now. Blue Jays, Giants, Braves are in play.

Ohtani like to win but the Braves organization want to win too.

AA was asked specifically about Ohtani. He said he couldn't comment on any free agent (mlb rules) but that Kelenic was the only position player we've targeted. The implication was we haven't targeted Ohtani.

Considering how little sense it would make for us, I'm inclined to believe him.

Well, that's not an implication of anything because Ohtani is not a position player.

It would make tremendous sense if we want to win ball games and be THE story in MLB.

DH is a position they should be left open for 60+% of the time to facilitate rest.

Spending boatloads of cash to restrict flexibility in resting players makes little sense. We need pitching first and foremost.

I think any team that signs Ohtani has to do so with the understanding that they may need to eventually play him in the OF if he can no longer pitch.

Ohtani has to have everybody’s offer by now right? Shouldn’t be hard to choose the city since you know who’s good and who isn’t.

He say that he want to play with a winning franchise. Only 3-4 teams… Dodgers, Braves, Astros and Rangers.

AA is going to trade for a pitcher with at least 2 or 3 years left on his contract. Someone no one has talked about and maybe even someone no one thought was available. The trade will probably be at least somewhat creative.

I suspect we'll target someone with a high K rate even if they have a somewhat high BB rate. I suspect we might trade Elder either to the other team or to a third team for prospects to send to the other team.

Elder is a low k rate guy who pitches to contact. That's not the kind of pitcher AA prioritizes. We'll also likely need to open a spot in the rotation since they seem intent on stretching out Lopez.

That's my prediction.

Any ideas? You’ve narrowed it down somewhat.

Honestly how many good young SP with years of team control are even out there to begin with. I will be surprised if we add a big name SP at this point. We don't need one to win the division. So I think we go into the season with what we have and see how that shakes out. Maybe grab someone at the trade deadline. Our farm will have an additional half year to develop. Maybe AJSS lights it up and we don't feel the pressure to add. Maybe it's Waldrep. Maybe some other prospects shine and we can trade them. Baseball is a funny sport. AJSS and Waldrep could both be in the rotation by the trade deadline.

I think AA decides to sign Clevinger in the area of a 3 year 48mil deal with a club option 15mil/3mil buyout
