Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Couldn't they just have kept Nicky Lopez for cheaper??

I suppose, but they wouldn't have Kelenic.

Evan white is 7m worth of dead money. They turned 6m of the dead money into a viable utility man.

The question though is how mich money they'll need to send out to get off Stassi.

Or perhaps they'll trade him for another slightly overpaid bench piece.

The Fletcher part of the trade doesn’t make much sense. Stassi as a backup catcher would have some value to teams if AA is willing to eat a portion of his salary.

Remember Pina was part of the Murphy trade.

Maybe every big trade requires backup catcher to be thrown in.

Fletcher makes sense… he’s our new utility guy who’s a solid player.

Fletcher and White's money offset for the most part. He's a decent player, can play all over the infield. Maybe a little overpaid, but he's fine as a bench piece. Maybe AA has a deal lined up where he needs Stassi? We'll find out.

Lopez went to the White Sox in the Bummer deal. I'm not seeing how that crosswalks to the Kelenic deal. It might, but I'm not seeing it.

It’s converting dead money to a useful-ish roster piece. If Stassi can be moved.

I'm sure they could of found other ways to work it. But if they kept Lopez they couldn't take on Fletcher to offset the White contract.

Will need to see what money, if any, they are sending in the Strassi deal

Braves are sending 9.25 million to the Pirates for Gonzalez. Add in the 4.5 from the Mariners and that costs the Braves 4.75 million.

So as it stands now when looking at the whole picture.

Braves gained Kelenic, Bummer, Fletcher, Stassi, and the important PTBNL.

Braves gave up 4.5 million Cole Phillips, Lopez, and a bunch of non tender candidates.

Fletcher will likely cost a couple million more than Lopez but when it's all sorted out they will likely have paid less than 10 million for the rights to Kelenic which is pretty wild.
