I know everyone has done a version of this a million times already but the A’s hypothetically could have had a 1995 Indians type middle of the order

Rooker: .319/.441/.681
Murphy: .299/.440/.636
Olson: .250/.382/.551
Chapman: .349/.434/.603

Nice to see rooker figuring it out. He won the triple crown for the sec here at miss st, but he kinda sucked in the pros till this season

Chapman gonna get paid paid this winter. Far and away the best bat on the market with guys like Devers and Machado re-signing.

Wow, Turner’s plate discipline numbers are indeed at least mildly concerning. O-swing up, o-contact down, overall contact down, swinging strike up for four straight years each. Swing % also up each of the last 4. Surprised I didn’t see this mentioned in the off-season.

yes, advanced swing stats are something I never looked at really. But they sure can tell a story if read correctly. Same with Riley. Not sure there is an approach change, but his swing rate dropped and he was swinging at less strikes. I haven't looked recently, but that was just before his huge slump he has been in. The other stat was his zone contact was lower earlier too. him missing pitches in zone is concerning.

Phillies closer Alvarado is on the 15 day IL btw with elbow inflammation. Had an MRI and is waiting to go over the results with a doctor. Sounds like they are pretty concerned.

seems pitchers are going down in droves this year. Wonder if 2020 trunc'd season with immediate full season in 21 and 22 are starting to show some wear on these guys.

I'm pretty concerned about our rotation. Already missing Fried/Wright for 2+ months. Schuster and Dodd have shown they arent ready, Soroka hasnt thrown a pitch since 2020. At least our offense is back to full strength but the rotation is a problem.

Soroka has thrown pitches in 2022 and 2023 in fact

Ha, good one, meant in the bigs. If Soroka can show he can hold down one of the spots, that would be big. No idea about the other spot, but gotta do something, cuz the rotation is being held together by duct tape right now. It's not quite 2020 levels of concern but it's rough out there.

Lots of talk about the pitch clock, but I think it's more a function of these guys just throwing so hard in this era.

Honestly, I don't expect to get anything out of Wright or Fried going forward. I view it kind of how we viewed Soroka the other year. If they provide any value whatsoever, it is icing on the cake. That being said, the rotation is a massive problem currently. Good thing we were able to build up a buffer in the division.

The occasional bullpen game is okay in situations like today where we have the day off tomorrow. But outside of that, it really stretches the whole staff thin. I wouldn't be shocked if AA makes a move in early June.

I might say earlier. I think Fried will be okay, just dont know when we can expect him back. September? Late July? AA will make a rotation move, has to, anyones guess as to who and when that'll be. I'm way more concerned with Wright, had shoulder problems in the spring and it flared up again. Fried's last start, his velocity was fine, everything seems okay physically, no breaks or anything. Just needs time.

Offense gonna have to do some backpacking in the meantime.

Losing Fried and Wright sucks big time but on the bright side we aren’t committed to them long term. We could have dodged a bullet with Fried if he does end up needing TJS. The FA pitching this offseason and next are really good so AA can do what he needs in the offseason. The rotation is a huge problem right now and I look for AA to acquire somebody in the next month.
