Official Around Baseball 2023 Thread

To piggyback off my post from above. These are the dangers of an extreme strikeout rate no matter what other tools you possess. 32% K rate won't get it done no matter what else you are doing. And to think there was a pretty vocal crowd trying to get him to the all-star game based on a few highlight reels of the course of a month of games.

To be fair, his K-rate has sky rocketed this week. He had a 28% K-rate less than a week ago, but he's struck out in 50% of his play appearances since the break. That won't last either.

He should have been at the all star game. If baseball ever wants to grow, they have to hitch their wagon to these stars... even if they flame out in less than a year. He was hot and must see before the all star game. pimp that moment and draw fans in to watch. Baseball needs to drop the whole every team needs a rep. just get the most exciting players and have fun with the game. Make it where teams can trade players in the middle of the game... don't make it another boring baseball game.. make it different and fun.

When that dude switched hit in the HR derby, that was awesome. It was the only part I found even remotely interesting. I was bored and turned it off somewhere in the semi finals because it was just dudes taking batting practice. If ManDick is about gimics, then why is he not doing them in that contest. Jesus, so many opportunities. put targets in stands that give extra points or wins a fan something. Hit 4 in a row, everyone gets to kick Mandick in the nuts.. there are endless gimics.

I agree about every team not needing a rep. That is a joke. I dissagree about some guy having a good 3 weeks before the break and letting him on the team because of a few highlight reels. That is equally a joke and I suspect most players would say the same thing considering how as a group they shafted Tatis.

50% clearly won't last but I suspect it's going to be in the 30's for the remainder of the season going by his minor league stats.

And his BABIP still sits at .409 so obviously that's going to come down a lot as well, and so will his triple slash line.

It was ~28% total in the minors, which was the same as it was through his first 130ish bats this year. I don't think he's quite the K machine you make him out to be. Time will tell I guess.

As a primarily LHH with the best speed in the majors and elite exit velocities, I think you can comfortably assume his BABIP will remain fairly high. Though certainly, .409 is unreasonably high.

28% puts him in the top 20 in baseball so even that is a lot. And yes I do expect K totals to rise once he faces major league pitching.

Luckily we have a stat like xWOBA and it's not pretty

Greg Olson disagrees.

Andrew Painter of the Phillies probably needs TJ according to the Phillies. Bummer for him.

Bowman: Kyle Wright will play catch off the mound on Friday and then throw some shortened bullpens early next week. If all goes well, he could begin throwing normal bullpens by the end of next week. ETA now seems to be early September.

Just in time to replace the regressing Elder.

Fried/Strider/Morton/Wright for the playoffs here we come

Rays are now in 2nd place. lmao

I think they are arguably the best team in that division, but they were playing out of their minds early in the season. Add to that, the injuries to the pitching staff and it's not that surprising they are falling back to earth.
