Official CBA Negotiation Thread

Everyone has talked about having an international draft for years and is the future of the sport.

I'd agree, scuttling this thing because of that is likely a poor move.

If anything it probably takes domestic cash out of pockets from the draft some. There may be too many hands in too many pockets ingrained in the current system.

Passan has a good thread on Twitter where he discusses some of the opposition from the mindset of a player from the D.R....David Ortiz.

Ortiz wasn't necessarily opposed, but thought there should be more time before it is implemented, in order to give people time to adjust.

I get that. A few years is fine.
 
they are literally going back and forth until they meet in the middle on all these numbers. The fact they couldn't do this months ago is frustrating.
 
Owners want it, so it's a way to lower salaries.

I think people rightly feel the internal/latin players are getting squeezed as it is. If they are going to do a draft and pay those guys less money, I can see how that could be a big issue.

The whole thing is frustrating.

I wish there was a third party actually trying to make baseball better.

This is just made worse b/c the owners are fighting amongst themselves b/c they do not trust each other on a variety of levels.

Baseball needs someone trying to make it better and expand revenues, not a union breaker only focused on getting more of the pie.

Eh, maybe the top end guys won't get crazy bonuses, but they will get a lot. The next tier guys will likely do as well or better.

I agree. MLBPA carrying about 16 year olds in the Dominican while their young players are going to lose significant salary and service time is pretty maddening.

Why they just now started debating the numbers is also maddening. Like, what the **** were they doing for 90 days?

Heads need to roll over this. Manfred needs to be gone bare minimum.

Manfred isn't making these decisions. He's just a mouthpiece for the owners.

What happened in the past doesn't really matter considering negotiations that are happening today. The Union is ****ing up.

Maybe a 5% chance and increasing that there's no season at all?
 
I never understood how extending the season a week is bad for business. 9/11 halted MLB season for a bit. And the postseason continued into November.
 
I can understand why the owners would want an international draft, and I can understand why the international players wouldn’t. But this really shouldn’t be a sticking point for either side. Something stinks.
 
If we can get the international draft off of the table we have a real chance of getting a deal done.
